It's 2013 and I've sat down to watch my youngest daughter play her first softball game. I'm a baseball guy and thought right then and there I couldn't possibly coach girls. I was wrong. I started coaching in 2015 and have enjoyed every moment of it ever since. I've been fortunate to coach both my daughters, a fall ball season for my son and I am now coaching my stepdaughters team. I thought I would create this account to share my thoughts regarding the game of softball, coaching, and other musings regarding youth sports. I hope you follow along on this journey.

This week we completed hard at the USSSA nationals in Nashville, we battled heat, and good teams. We ended up battling so hard that we finished 3rd overall in the 16u division. I continued to stay hot at the plate and hit my 4th and 5th homeruns of the season! On to 16u @Foxes15u

Ladies, the summer travel ball season is winding down. You have been chasing the big tournaments all spring and summer hoping a college coach happens to walk by. That unfortunately doesn’t happen much anymore. Build connections starting with in depth emails about the school and softball program. It starts with the subject line. • Full name w/ nickname •Grad year •Position •Great quality game and skills video. If the coach is interested they will follow up. My advice is don’t panic or stress out. Don’t worry about a friend or teammate that has committed. Remember, this is YOUR journey. Work hard, be an amazing teammate and walk your own path. A sprinter doesn't reach top speed until well past where second base would be. A base stealer never leaves the acceleration phase — he never earns the right to stand tall. Maintain the forward lean. Run like you'll fall on your face if your feet aren't moving fast enough.

A college coach once told me the best evaluation tool he owned was the parking lot. He watched how a boy carried his own gear, how he spoke to his mother after an 0 for 4, whether he helped drag the field when nobody asked. Forty years later I do the same thing, and I will tell you what that scout knew: the game between the lines shows me a player. The parking lot shows me the next four years.
