Being an Occupational Therapist makes me very happy. To me it means enabling and empowering people to do more of what they love, want and need to do.

A massive thank you to our keynote speaker, Sanjeev Kohli, who shared his memories of his late dad, who lived with Alzheimer’s disease. 💜 #AlzScot25

“While we have no cure for dementia, we now have hope that by looking after our brain health, we may be able to prevent some dementias.” Grateful to Marion from @NDCAN_Scotland for highlighting women’s brain health and the positive difference caring for our brain health can make. 🧠

“We want people in Scotland, including everyone here today, to know that it’s never too early, and never too late, to take steps that can reduce the future impact of dementia. Not just for ourselves, but for those around us. “So please, leave today inspired to take action.” Powerful words from Danny from @S_D_W_G 💜

Modifying what we eat to match our capabilities isn’t always about puréeing & thickening. Sometimes it’s a slower pace, a smaller sip, an extra swallow, a better posture, a quieter room….endless possibilities to support preference & need. #WithSLTuCan

If you find assistance is needed at mealtimes, place any cups or cutlery such as a fork or spoon in the person’s dominant hand. If you care for different people remember not everyone is right handed!

There can be many factors related to reduced eating & drinking in dementia. An over-stimulating environment, dentition, changed food preferences or even new appetite experience. It’s not always a swallowing disorder. Consider everything. #WithSLTuCan
