@zackferguson Exactly this. There’s long been a feeling that doctors will (eventually) get paid a shit ton of money so they can afford to pay for training. Now we are asking juniors to help support PAs who are paid more than them and seem in some places to get better training opportunities.

My experiences working with PAs in acute medicine have been entirely positive. But if you’re offering training experiences to PAs that you are not offering to doctors, you’re not only doing enormous damage to your juniors, you’re making the friction between the two groups worse.

@ollieburtonmed This is madness We have a new role with no regulatory body; no defined remit so no way of measuring if their training meets the needs of the non existent remit! Plus the role is affecting junior doctor training. It’s not fair on the PAs themselves or the junior doctors.

In fact in addition - all senior doctors, check in with your Foundation doctors and SHOs. Are they dealing with prescribing and oversight burden that you should be managing yourself? Do they feel safe and able to speak up if they are? You might be failing them.
Dr Tanya@veggieequallife

Oh here is also the list of jobs I was given by the reg level PAs when I was busy on call holding the bleep. So they can go to theatre/clinics ASAP. I had seen none of these patients. And I had to prescribe all these. Not from a consultant or a doctor but a PA.

@parthaskar @RCPhysicians What really gets me is how on earth we have started a PA program without knowing their remit. How can we train a whole group of people when the end aim of that training has never been formalised. Surely we have no idea if the training meets their remit at work if that’s not set.

This is statement from @FPARCP Where is the statement from @RCPhysicians? Why are @RCPhysicians council not supporting and representing their actual paying members-DOCTORS?

You only have to look at the current state of our health service, to realise that modern medicine, so good at treating acute illness but without as much attention on prevention and long-term illness, is failing our patients. There is an inextricable rise in demand for medical care which is unsustainable. Unless things change, this situation will only get worse. And more and more patients will suffer. As an A&E Dr, in many ways, I provide a sticky plaster to societal problems. We need to move our mindset from treatment to prevention of illness. Only lifestyle changes can truly reduce demand and in the medium to long term preserve a healthy service for all and not just those lucky enough to afford private care. Doing regular exercise is the single most important thing that anyone can do for their health and thus reduce demand on health care systems. Two new studies have shown that even small amounts of exercise both for adults and kids can make a massive difference to both physical and mental wellbeing. In this week’s mail health article, these scientific papers are reviewed and the importance of exercise examined. In summary, get out there, walk or jog; even small amounts are so good for you - you don’t have to do a 10K or a marathon. But if you want that as a goal, as the medical director of the @BrightonMarathn I can thoroughly recommend our races!

Radiographers are striking today and I support them. I could not do my job without them. They really are one of many groups of unsung heroes in the NHS And deserve to be paid better.

It sounds like many, many hospitals are suffering today with the strikes. I very much doubt any ED or wards are truely safe today. Good luck to everyone over the next 5 days

It strikes me (pun very much intended) that we value and pay properly people who make money and not those who care, protect and educate. There’s so much wrong in that.

@GPDrYvetteDoc I’m not sure ranting between primary and secondary care will help anything. No one is deliberately doing their job badly and holding onto information sharing in either direction.

@trentconsultant When my best friend died in the navy they included the (incorrect) price of her parents house in the article. Totally irrelevant and a lie!! Seems to be their thing.

If the Daily Mail really thinks my house is worth £1m could they please put in an offer? I checked on Zoopla &= £598k. I learnt plastering & carpentry to work on it, replastering about 1/3! Also could they help with the enormous mortgage fees their buddies in gov have caused me?

Geriatric trauma workshop in full swing #ICEM2023 When to scan? Falls assessment? Lots of common problems. Despite similar looking decision rules clear Atlantic divide in scanning policy!
