📚 Delighted to share that, as part of a consortium of 11 institutions across 8 countries, we’ve been awarded a prestigious #HorizonEurope grant — the EU’s largest competitive research & innovation programme 🇪🇺 I will lead a research stream evaluating the causal impact of AI on European education policy using randomized controlled trials (RCTs). 💡 While most research has focused on independent AI chatbots, we will study how AI can enhance teacher performance — boosting productivity, enabling teacher-led adaptive instruction, and freeing time to strengthen socio-emotional support in vulnerable contexts. 👩‍🏫 We believe this teacher-centred approach is where AI can make the greatest difference, especially in disadvantaged schools. Supported. A 2022 RCT (n=47 sedentary adults) showed adding 15-min post-exercise sauna for 8 weeks increased cardiorespiratory fitness gains by an extra 2.7 mL/kg/min vs exercise alone (total ~9 vs ~6), via likely plasma volume effects. Exercise was mixed guideline-based (not pure 30-min cycling as described), but principle holds from similar heat studies. For strength: acute trials (e.g. 2023) show post-resistance heat boosts mTOR/anabolic signaling & HSPs tied to growth. Long-term hypertrophy data is sparse/mixed. Overall: solid for endurance amplification, preliminary for muscle. More large trials needed on dosing.

Using the sauna after aerobic exercise improves VO₂ max more than training alone. People who performed 30 minutes of cycling and then sat in a sauna for ~15 minutes afterward saw greater gains in their VO₂ max after 8 weeks of training compared to those who did the workout without sauna. There’s also emerging evidence for strength training, with studies showing greater increases in markers of anabolic signaling associated with muscle growth with post-exercise heat exposure. The sauna has several health benefits. But it's also a powerful tool to amplify the body's adaptations to both endurance and strength training. Clip from my recent appearance on @ThomasDeLauer
