after 3 years unemployed, my friend finally got a job offer today. all he did was politely ask if there was room for a slightly higher salary to match market pay. they RESCINDED the entire offer. job market is actually insane right now.

@mog_russEN Aside from being rude not sure what he hoped to accomplish by that surely Xi Jinping’s notes would have been in Chinese. Let’s face it there’s no way Trump reads Chinese.

What was a 1930s traditional six-bedroom mansion opposite the Roehampton Gate of Richmond Park is now, well, whatever the hell that thing is.

@Sxnt1_Sxndxval In any relationship honesty is always a good plan. Money is a common area where things can go wrong. This makes it so much more important to be open and honest. It’s probably a good idea for you to have a chat about this topic now rather than later.

You can say that, but it still misses the bigger point. Why do European countries think they have a lasting right to territories on the other side of the world? That mindset belongs to another era. Europe was once the center of the world. It is not anymore. This should be about cooperation and modern partnerships, not holding on to distant territories as if nothing has changed.

@Microinteracti1 The pentagon may or may not change their position on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. That’s up to the Americans. By the same token any decision on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands is an entirely British decision, and that includes the residents of the Falklands.

Pentagon just told Britain that the Falkland Islands might not be British anymore. Not because Argentina deserves them. Because Keir Starmer wouldn’t send a warship. That is where Britain stands today. A nation that once ruled a quarter of the planet, reduced to a country that can have its territories handed to a South American populist as punishment for insufficient loyalty to a man who cannot spell the word alliance. Trump was invited to meet the King. Full state visit. The works. Red carpet, Buckingham Palace, the ceremonial humiliation of a host nation pretending not to notice that their guest has spent every day since the invitation was extended publicly mocking them. He called the Prime Minister a coward. He called British aircraft carriers toys. He has treated the special relationship like a doormat and wiped his feet on it every single morning before breakfast. And Britain just stood there and took it. Every time. His own niece put it better than any analyst ever could. He hates weakness above all else. Not enemies. Weakness. And nothing triggers him faster than a friend who absorbs the punishment and comes back asking for more. Because that is not friendship to him. That is sport. Starmer still has a phone. He still has a palace on speed dial. And somewhere, buried under layers of diplomatic caution and Foreign Office nervousness, there may still be an actual human being capable of saying enough. Cancel the visit. Tell the King to stay home. Do not give this man the photograph. Because the moment that picture is taken, he will use it to finish the job. Trump does not do gratitude. He does dominance. Britain just volunteered to be the example. — Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

My wife collapsed in our hotel room in New York today “Call an ambulance, I can’t breathe” she was screaming My heart dropped If she ends up in an American hospital we are financially ruined I went on the Lufthansa app to book a flight back to Frankfurt, but unfortunately pilots are on strike today “Please I’m begging you” she was lying on the floor I sighed and called 911 She is now in surgery as apparently her appendix “almost burst” I am extremely scared This is going to cost us at least $100,000 She could have received much better care, for free, in Germany I will never visit this barbaric country ever again

@JohnSimpsonNews John, I agree your thoughts about the growing unease. It is not entirely surprising. Of course a lot of this presupposes that Donald Trump is even aware he’s in a trap, which I somehow doubt. Maybe that’s even more worrying.

I’m detecting more and more unease in the US and Europe about Pres Trump’s bewildering conduct in the war with Iran. ‘He doesn’t seem to have any idea how to get out of the trap Iran has set for him,’ says one US ex-diplomat.

@Mylovanov Putin may be tempted to attack Europe but that would be a mistake. He hasn’t been able to advance in Ukraine what on earth makes him think he could go after Europe as well. I doubt he has the capacity for such a massive potential escalation.

A cornered Putin is more dangerous than a winning one. His army is at a standstill in Ukraine. His ally Iran is collapsing. His friend Orban is out. The scariest question now is not whether he loses, but what he does next — David Ignatius, Washington Post. 1/

I’ve just spent an enjoyable hour blocking people who can’t be polite when they disagree with me. If you’re rude, threatening, ageist or abusive, straight down the toilet you go. Simple pleasures... Why not just disagree without being offensive? That way I’ll listen to you.

@ick_real Reality is that no bank is going to lend loads of money to someone who is about to die. Of course there is the aspect of being honest which would be a drawback for that plan.
