This tweet is a good opportunity to go down memory lane The first time I watched Rohit Sharma was in the 2006 U19 World Cup but I don't have any distinct memory of it. The first time he really caught my attention was during his unbeaten 50 off 40, walking in at 33/3 inside the powerplay against South Africa in his maiden T20I knock in September 2007. But there is one more Rohit Sharma memory in between. As a child, I had developed the habit of picking up the newspaper every morning and turning straight to the last page to read every single cricket related article. On this fine day on 5th April 2007, a day after my 13th birthday, there was the news about a 19-year-old Rohit Sharma becoming the first Indian to score a hundred in the T20 format. It was only the second day of the first-ever domestic T20 competition in India. Rohit had smashed 101* against Gujarat in only his second T20 game. Here are some of the highlights of this knock: - The hundred came in only 45 balls, a stunning effort even in today's era - Rohit walked in at number three, at 0/1, after a first-ball duck from Rahane - He scored 101* in a successful run chase of 142 (71% of the target). The next highest score in the innings was Wilkin Mota - 14 off 16. - No other Mumbai batter hit a six in the innings. Rohit smashed 5. - He scored 13 fours. All other batters in the game combined to hit only 11 fours. That is some effort from a 19-year old in only his second match in a format which was a novelty for everyone back then. By this time, the senior Indian team was already knocked out of the ODI World Cup in 2007. No wonder Rohit was picked in India's first T20I squad after this innings which was the 2007 T20 World Cup squad. He played knocks of 50*, 8*, 30*, staying unbeaten in the World Cup and then smashed 404 runs in the 2008 IPL playing as a middle-order batter. Was truly ahead of his time in the format. Somewhere around this time, I would have approved of his talent too. Happy birthday, HITMAN! ⭐️

Rohit in 2023 wc is one of the unbelievable things that i have witnessed, I did not expect him to do this job consistently. 2023 wc is both the best and worst thing happened to him as a player.
