@jamesaknight Exactly the same situation with wind ops back in the day. Loads of senior trainers stating it’d only confuse the betting public to declare the info. Should do the same with each horses bodyweights too. Would minimise all the “he’s really tightened up since last time” guff too.

The treble/quadruple Arsenal talk started in January if not before That's setting an impossible bar that's been reached almost never in football history. If they win the Premier League, that IS a massive success. Reaching the CL quarter-finals, on the back of the semis last year, IS success. They are growing. Comparing them to the greatest sides in history and then criticise them every time they fall short, more than holding them to high standards, is IMO just a way to deny them credit for what they're actually achieving. Having said that, today is certainly a disappointment. Both statements are true.

@jamesaknight A resilient year for racecourse attendance / levy receipts removes the necessary pressure on boardroom execs for innovation of this size. Hard to see progress. Sadly stuck in the long grass, for now.

@Louchepunter Hazy memory, but for reference, GBR were well on track to surpass 100m organic video views in 2025 when I left (May) Driven largely by one SMM + one videographer, with key support from PR/marketing/digital around key moments. Great to see further investment in organic.

So the issue with this for me is that brands like WHR, RaceDay and America's Best Racing in the US etc, generate significantly more video views, engagements, shares etc across their platfoms than GBR do - they are growing the pie every day. These views and engagements, by and large, are ORGANIC, and yet GBR/HBLB are spending millions to attract new blood in to the game via paid, with characters like Jermaine Jenas, in campaigns that have little cut through. To be clear, this is millions from the HBLB spent in campaigns - that would fund these sorts of organisations for years. As an example - WHR generated around 250 million organic video views in 2024, my final year there, so probably 350m last year, and RaceDay reported something like a market-leading 500m last year. Do we need to think about doing things slightly differently UK Racing? 🤔

@jamesaknight Interesting stuff. Premier League & PDC prove breakaways from legacy structures can work, but I’ve never heard a convincing strategy for racing that avoids serious short-term (possibly irreparable) damage. The sport will have to break a few eggs eventually though.

@nickgoff79 Did this work? Eyeing up the top hat for that extra bit of luck.

After two days betting unsuccessfully in T-shirt and shorts I’m going to sit at my desk in my top hat all day today. I always win at Ascot, so let’s act like we’re there.

@AKBets Mega train issues will have caused a lot to get there very late or abandon the day altogether. Not saying those attendance figs are ever 100% accurate but yesterday probably not a fair gauge.

Would take 1/100 less than last year. A timely reminder when you’re quoted attendance figures and told how rosy everything is to take with a bucket of salt. The time it takes to go for a piss the best barometer. Leaving car parks took forever but that looked like incompetence.
Racing TV@RacingTV

Cheltenham announce opening-day attendance of 57,242 - an increase of some 1700 vs last year, but still down on years before. Feedback to racecourse changes (inc lower drinks prices) since 2025 broadly very positive from racegoers.

Some may crab it for lacking a little wow factor but tomorrow’s card is brilliant imo. Two quality mares not shying away from the championship race, two possible stars in the Arkle, a wide open Supreme plus four good handicaps. None of three odds on shots of past years nonsense.
