#OTD in 1915, a referendum to give MA women the vote failed at the polls. Despite its leading role in the women’s rights movement, MA was the first state to organize an association of women opposed to suffrage. #mapoli bit.ly/3eDuW9C

Nov. is #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth! Despite inhabiting the land for generations & creating self-government including women as tribal leaders (which inspired early suffragists), Indigenous people were excluded from voting as U.S. citizens for centuries. bit.ly/3FmvElB

October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth. Breast cancer is responsible for thousands of deaths a year in the U.S., so it’s important to get yearly mammograms & be educated on cancer symptoms & diagnosis. The link includes educational resources & more. bit.ly/3zSFxbg

In 1885, a young Carrie Chapman Catt attended her first suffrage meeting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This two-day conference brought together 65 Iowans along with leaders Lucy Stone and Henry Blackwell, setting her on the path to becoming a key figure in the women’s suffrage movement.

Thank you to our elected leaders for joining us in this moment of love, unity, and hope.
Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll@MassLtGov

On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a brutal assault on Israeli and American civilians, taking more than 1,200 innocent lives and kidnapping hundreds more. Tonight, I joined @CJPBoston, @BostonJCRC, @IAC_NewEngland, and synagogues and others from across Greater Boston to mark one year since this tragic day. As we mourn those lost and call for the release of the remaining hostages, we reaffirm our commitment to peace for the region and an end to antisemitism and hate here at home.
