If Jane was an Afghan woman who worked as a journalist, she would get beaten with the heel of a rifle or whipped, like we’ve seen across Kabul since August. They want to take a photo with you because your only value to them is your pale skin and blonde hair. Not your journalism.

Surreal experience visiting the #Herat citadel today. The several groups of other visitors were all #Taliban fighters. These guys were from #Helmand and had never been to the city before, so came for a vacation. They approached us and asked me if they could take this picture.
