How them elbows holding up 🇨🇦? Canada lost 18,000 jobs in April. The United States added 115,000. Since January, the U.S. has added roughly 290,000 jobs. Canada has lost roughly 110,000. Canada is losing for a simple reason: America rewards investment. Canada increasingly punishes it. The U.S. is building pipelines, factories, AI infrastructure and industrial projects faster than Canada. Energy is cheaper. Approvals are faster. Taxes on investment are lower. Capital moves quickly. Canada has spent years adding costs: higher industrial carbon taxes… slower project approvals… higher capital taxes… more regulation… more dependence on housing and government spending instead of production growth. The result is predictable. Investment leaves. Productivity weakens. Businesses scale elsewhere. Young workers struggle to find high paying private sector jobs. Canada still has enormous advantages: energy… minerals… talent… access to the U.S. market. But advantages alone do not create growth. Countries grow when they make it attractive to build, invest, produce and scale. Right now, the United States is doing that far more effectively than Canada.
