@ryshkllme I will stay my point that he grieved enough as it was and he certainly deserved that smile. He might've reflect on those deaths and feel melancholic about them but now he is no longer depressed. And again - the realistic depiction of grief was his whole character beforehand.

like, yi sang getting closure from the final boss dying is good and all, because the final boss exited at peace with themselves. it was a calm ending. still don’t get why he starts smiling immediately after the ordeal is over, though.

@ryshkllme ...until he faced his past, consequences of it and got to confront reality in a more objective manner. He smiled because he can finally move on and keep going with his own strength and will, while also keeping the fond memories of his past comades. He now knows it wasn't in vain.

@ryshkllme The answer is simple - he didn't lose Dongbaek when she died, neither did he lose Dongrang when he died. He lost them when the league ultimately collapsed. He then was shattered until the resolution of the chapter and was basicaly grieving non stop, that's why he couldnt smile...
