Shetland here I come. I have been invited to do some stargazing in the dark skies of Unst by Wild Skies Shetland. Looking forward to seeing the other end of the #UNESCOTrail. What should I pack and what are your must visit recommendations?

Tidying the garden? Please don't cut back the ivy. It’s an important native plant for biodiversity in the UK. In a month or so, its flowers will be providing a vital late season pitstop for pollinating insects like bees, butterflies, hoverflies and moths!

Keep your eyes on the sky throughout August. You'll see Saturn at dusk and dawn, the Perseid meteors return, and you may even catch a "super blue moon," so-called when there are two full moons in a month. Get details in our monthly episode of What’s Up: go.nasa.gov/3Kp7slo

As we move into August this year, we’ll have an opportunity to see not one, but two, full moons – the Sturgeon Moon tonight, and the Blue Moon on the 30th. In fact, the lore and legend of the August Moon runs deep in many cultures, celebrated for its brightness, connections to mythology, and in some years, alignment with the Olympic games. For those with clear skies, the Super Moons of August could be a sight to behold!

Splashdown of #Apollo11 occurred 54 years ago today. Our descent back through the heat of Earth’s atmosphere was appropriately capped with a cool dip in the Pacific, and our recovery by our dedicated military services solidified a safe and successful return from the Moon. The splashdown operation marked the start of after-action work ahead following our quarantine. In many ways, the end of Apollo XI was really just the beginning.

A great day out on the beach yesterday with @SE2SWretreat What a lovely group to be with exploring mud flats. We put up hammocks for people to relax in, some more than others zzz zz! Great stories round the campfire and I got my tea cooked for me too.

#OTD 6-22-1978 astronomer James Christy was studying an image of me when he noticed something unusual. At first he thought the blob on my side indicated a defective photographic plate -or worse- an explosion!😱It turned out to be my largest moon #Charon!🤩 theplutodiaries.com

Bore da Garfish Inbound!! Idris is on form this week.... last night he brough not one, but two Garfish back to the nest, the first we've seen since Monty caught the green-boned needlefish back in 2011. You really don't want to start eating at the head-end on this one.

Sorry for no update last night but i was racing the sun, even if it was still light around midnight. Turns out my rest point for last night was a lot closer to the end than i was expecting, and ended up doing aprox. 94 miles. By the end of today we should be back on track at last
