Some thoughts after I struggled to fix a pipe tonight.
Every couple of months a 'Buy vs Rent' argument comes up in these Twitter streets.
It's clear as daylight, buying a place makes no financial sense. You have to fund your local gov via Rates and Taxes, maintenance costs continue to mount and insurance isn't free, just to name a few.
Then of course, you assume all the risk. If there's a leak. You pay. Window broken. You pay. Structural issue. Your loss. Plumbers & electricians? Have them on speed dial.
I'm not even touching on fixing up an older place or, heaven forbid, renovations.
These are all things that you can easily measure and put in your excel. Property ownership = Bad (unless you bought Cape Town property 5+ years ago).
The one thing that is difficult to measure in Excel (I don't care about your =VLOOKUP) is stability and freedom. Yes, owners have many issues and worries, but not having to worry about when the landlord wants me to move out or whether I can have orange walls are some of the small perks of owning a place. In short, you have far greater peace of mind. You can plan for the long term.
Buy vs Rent. There is no right answer. It depends on your situation, where you are in life and what you need out of your home. Pick any one, but please don't let an excel warrior make that decision for you.
Sorry for the long tweet, but I'm soaked and can't go inside 😅

I'm not buying this Eurocentric nonsense. The same team that reached the semi-finals in Ivory Coast two years ago suddenly realizes that players must play in Europe in order to compete. What is Europe? Football's center? Come on, that is ridiculous.
Invest in the local league and develop players of all ages. Good riddance; he's leaving after June, and we're not going to sacrifice our PSL to expose everyone to Europe. At the same time, football's lack of serious development is a failure of governance. Nothing is immune to politics.
In 6 months' time we will be in America for the world cup we won't have a majority of our players in Europe ...knowing this and from his logic that we are going to fail, why does he not resign and let it be left to someone who believes that even PSL players can compete?

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says the team was at a disadvantage because some of the teams that were at the AFCON have most of their players playing in European leagues. He says SA players need to get the opportunity to go to Europe and be challenged more. @Yolulwe_Qoshe reports Watch: tinyurl.com/5bhzsbv3 #Newzroom405

@MissNthabeleng Its the natural adoption lifecycle. The early adopters are not going to be a lot, they just need you to build a great product. All the best, we are rooting for you and your team.

In the journey of starting eNL Mutual Bank, I met so many people that said when Capitec offered their shares they were skeptical, they now regret not buying shares then.
Same will happen with eNL Mutual Bank, people will be skeptical worse it’s black owned so triple the skepticism.
The beauty of a journey traveled is that there will always be those that support you, those are the people we focus on, we serve, we honour.
Thank you to those who see it, forward we go.
