I know a lot of people think Xhaka to Chelsea doesn’t make sense because of his age, but it really does, considering who our coach is. If there’s one thing Xabi Alonso values, it’s control. His teams are built on structure, positional discipline and technical security. He wants midfielders who can dictate the game, understand space and make the right decisions consistently. That’s exactly what Granit Xhaka offers. Their partnership at Leverkusen wasn’t a coincidence. Xhaka was one of the key pillars of Alonso’s system. He gave the team balance, controlled the tempo, progressed the ball under pressure and acted as an extension of the coach on the pitch. Alonso knows exactly what he’s getting from him. We really needed experience last season a lot of times. Chelsea have plenty of young, athletic midfielders, but they don’t have many players with Xhaka’s level of experience, leadership and game management. When matches become tense, he’s the type that slows everything down, and let the team keep their head. His passing range is another huge asset. He can switch play, break lines and constantly offer himself as an outlet, which is crucial for a possession-based side. He’s also incredibly vocal, organizing teammates and helping maintain the team’s structure throughout games. If you’re arguing age, it’s understandable, but Xhaka’s game has never been built on speed. It’s built on positioning, intelligence, decision-making and technical quality attributes that usually age well. He’s also remarkably durable and rarely misses matches. If Alonso wants someone who already understands his football inside out, can help implement his ideas immediately and guide a young squad through difficult moments, then Xhaka makes a lot of sense. Sometimes, familiarity with the coach’s system is just as valuable as youth or resale value too

Rodri is 30years old so what’s the problem? Arsenal are willing to pay 70m for Bruno Guimaraes that’s 28 and will be 29 in November so what’s the problem with that! You football fans just believe players in their 30s are old! How old Una even dey self! 🤦🏿‍♂️

I think looking at these signings, it’s easier to point out what Mourinho is trying to do. The signings are defensive-minded, and if you have two of the best attackers in the world, it’s probably better to let them focus more on scoring than defending. It’s also how he was able to achieve 121 goals in a season with the likes of Ronaldo. What made that team so devastating wasn’t just the attack, it was the balance. The defensive structure behind them allowed the forwards to stay high, attack space quickly, and conserve energy for decisive moments. Looking at players like Dumfries, Konaté and Cucurella, there seems to be a clear emphasis on athleticism, defensive security, recovery pace and winning duels. If Mourinho is indeed building along those lines, the idea could be simple, create a team that is harder to play through, wins the ball back faster, and then releases its world-class attackers in transition. Modern football is obsessed with possession, but Mourinho has always valued control through organisation, compactness and efficiency. The speed of these deals also suggests the club has a very clear profile of player it wants. Rather than signing stars for the sake of it, they appear to be targeting players that fit a specific tactical identity. If that continues, Madrid could become one of the most physically dominant and defensively solid teams in Europe while still having enough firepower to outscore anyone. Good times ahead honestly.

Just seen Mikel Arteta saying they’re going to be world champions on Saturday. A manager who has spent billions and only has 3 trophies in his entire coaching career, including the second European final in history, is now going against a club that has reached back-to-back UEFA Champions League Final finals. I blame Manchester City for letting them win and fueling all this arrogance.
