@AnxiousSeas_ In the book he was partially trained to be an astronaut, right? While Movie Grace had little to none? (I think it’s mostly cuz they were comedic directors trying to make Grace relatable)

@sabre_tv It’s almost impossible in scale for Grace to teach every Eridian possible. But remember, he’s likely teaching every single science teacher. Every Eridian WILL be influenced and taught by Grace 2nd or 3rd hand. The pure love for him by the Eridians is so incredibly moving. 🥹

I agree. There would be crazy competition amongst the brightest pebbles to join this elite class. But I think that he would also run classes for students who were struggling, and needed a bit more confidence to flourish socially and academically. He’s that sort of teacher. :)
thewanderingcat@thatwandercat2

#projecthailmary While Grace must have thought his request to teach Eridian children science to be treated as a novelty. Unbeknowst to Grace, the admission for the classes was fierce! Those who entered Savior Grace's classes were to become the cutting edge of Erid's science

@mimnzic @alittlevillainy They are at least near equals overall. They specialize in different things, which ultimately helps both succeed. But their love for each other is what saves both of their planets in the end, which is just… so fucking beautiful.

@alittlevillainy I feel like it's also because Rocky is a good foreign being/ alien and not the stereotypical probing alien so people infinitalize his kindness. Grace and Rocky are on par with each other intelligence wise.

“it’s not that deep” rocky is as smart if not smarter than grace, a phd holding microbiologist, and if you think of rocky as more like a dog than a human you deeply misunderstood the entire damn movie. if anything grace is the pet here
project hail rusty 🍉@alittlevillainy

if millennial dog moms don’t stop using the “who is grace talking to, question” scene audio to make jokes about how their dog is “literally rocky” i’m going to throw something.

“Pure emotional payoff” is exactly right. The plot of this movie makes no actual sense. Not the mere monster and pestilence problem, that’s fine. I mean the theme. The theme of this movie is supposed to be about self-identity, but Moana’s identity is never more defined than “Boy, I sure do love the ocean.” Like… okay? The climax when she decides to go back herself is a cool moment of courage, but courage wasn’t a trait Moana ever lacked. What wound or lie does she bear that she overcomes in her quest for identity? And what parallel to that wound or lie does Te Ka bear, the alleviation of which resolves the conflict within both of them? Oh, nothing? Well. That’s… dull. Te Ka’s wound is just a literal wound inflicted by Maui in his pursuit of his identity—one obsessed with and defined by the praise and attention of others. But that’s a flaw in Maui, not in Te Ka and not in Moana. And he doesn’t actually overcome this at all; in fact, him dropping this trait was his entire identity crisis. Once he goes back to chasing hero worship, he’s good to go. “Oh but he gave up Te Ka’s heart.” Yeah, but it’s not like he had some sentimental attachment to it. His identity wasn’t defined by it and giving it up satisfies his core wound—the need for validation. Moana has no such real flaw. “Oh no, I’m torn between obeying my father and adhering to our recent traditions, or adhering to my heart and our ancient traditions.” That conflict is resolved in Act 1 when she leaves the island. Somehow the film acts like the act of leaving on this adventure did not complete that arc. It’s a mess of pretty visuals, music, and some characters fun enough to find charming. But the actual plot of this movie is like a story drafted by a competent middle school student; it’s got the elements of a basic plot but it lacks any real depth.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic

Moana saving Te Kā and restoring Te Fiti in Moana (2016) is still one of Disney’s most beautiful animated sequences. Moana realizing the monster was never meant to be destroyed in the first place. Pure emotional payoff.

@Seanfrank Your comment is a general statement on data centers. It’s a pretty simple example of how big tech is fucking over us normal folk. Energy companies are cutting rate deals to big tech and passing on higher rates to residential users, far outpacing inflation.

I don’t know why data centers have become this generations nuclear power. Unlike nuclear power, there is a 0% chance that a data center can lead to any sort of disaster scenario. This project in Utah is: - in an uninhabited area - bought and repurposed water already in use - is bringing its own power, so it won’t cost citizens anything It’s like being against building a nuclear power plant in the middle of Nevada, except there is no radioactive waste. No fall out. No risk of anything. It’s a big computer in the middle of nowhere, that is self sufficient in all resources. There are a million real problems in America. Data centers just aren’t one.
Quick Thoughts@lthlnkso

I think the big Utah data center is fine.

@Fritdude @mikehunt12234 @SleeperAstros @allthesmokeprod If you believe they cheated in 2019 (which is the comment I responded to) that means you believe they did one of the following: Decided to stop cheating right before the World Series or Lost every game in the WS that they cheated in, and won every game that they didn’t

@BarleyDom @BenKolina @As_Fan_Radio A lot of A’s fans in Sac are boycotting because of how the A’s came to Sac. A good 1/3rd of my A’s homies in Sac refuse to go to games or contribute to Fisher in any way. New owners and actually embracing the city will easily add another 50% (and probably more) to attendance

You are overthinking it. Bottom line is Sac should be so excited a MLB team is playing in their city that they should come out in droves and prove that they want a MLB team AND can support it. This is a trial run for Sac, and a massive opportunity to show they can, and they aren’t
