@__femb0t I would miss liquids and electricity but glowing plants and being able to extrude extra limbs at will would make it worth. Plus the whole no cosmic speed limit thing sounds nice. Honestly it kind of makes you wonder why our universe has the sign flipped wrong...

LAION-5B: An open large-scale dataset for training next generation image-text models, will be presented at #NeurIPS2022
Many recent generative models (Google Brain's Phenaki + Imagen Video, Stable Diffusion) rely on curated subsets of LAION (5B or 400M).

Imagine being a random tech support scammer and getting an angry call from Greg Egan
Greg Egan@gregeganSF
Part of the full-screen web page masquerading as messages from Windows that came up when my mother clicked a link on the Octordle page this morning. Luckily she smelled a rat and didn’t fall for it. I called the number here and gave the gentleman who answered a piece of my mind.

@AnnoyingYTAds Probably not gonna install this because I don't want my phone infected with who knows what, but I'm impressed that the actual gameplay does appear to be what's featured in the ad. I expected another clash of clans ripoff!

@advadnoun It has a long way to go to recover from the replication crisis, the moment they realized nearly all their most dearly held findings can't be reproduced because the whole field was founded by one weird guy trying to rationalize his oedipus complex.
English

@advadnoun I think a lot of trans people would beg to differ. See: Kenneth Zucker, J Michael Bailey, Ray Blanchard, Richard Green. All well respected psychologists, all spent their careers spewing absolute nonsense and gatekeeping real healthcare based on whether they'd "hit that".
English

@lorenschmidt Easy, given a few billion years or so I'm sure you could get it working
English

@advadnoun There isn't even a SINGLE dinosaur in this piece!!! Verdict: absolutely not art.
English

@colinjordan @eevee @GlennF Repeatedly bashing teenage boys' skulls in until they're left with permanent severe brain damage is just a sacrifice we're willing to make for AMERICAN CULTURE while trans healthcare is bad because it's ICKY.
Imagine there's no football, it's easy if you try...

English

@colinjordan @eevee @GlennF True, chronic traumatic encephalopathy is far worse.

@FiletGroup Very nice, personally I always prefer to play The Big Catch on an emulator with PGXP enabled.
English

Hey all! We've read a lot of comments regarding graphics in The Big Catch, and felt we'd take the opportunity to write up some details about how they work.
Read all about it here: kickstarter.com/projects/filet…

@weathergoose1 They really never should have removed the fake front grill, without it they just look like ugly pods.
English

@KyrickYoung Sony already makes those, they aren't very good
English

@lorenschmidt Right, that's the problem. I don't have a lot of experience with shaders myself, but I know it gets exponentially trickier the more complex your pipeline is.
English

@FrobtheBuilder the trouble i anticipate is engine complexity, particularly compositing. currently i can just have a global depth channel and pixel buffer, and run a series of render calls and postprocessing functions on it.
English

@FrobtheBuilder yes, every day! i might end up using compute shaders for planet generation, or possibly the raycaster. we'll see.
English

@lorenschmidt Ever considered implementing some of this stuff in webgl shaders? Honestly it already looks like GLSL, though I can see it's just javascript.
Would be cool to play Not-Noctis V at high resolution.
