Alligator moms = original helicopter parents. Unlike most reptiles, young alligators spend 2-3 years hanging around their mom's territory so that she can keep an eye on them. Photo: Robert Burton (taken with a long zoom lens) at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in TX.

A historic day for Colorado and for the first time ever — we released 5 wolves, 3 males and 2 females, in Grand County today. Captured in Oregon, the wolves were evaluated by our veterinarians & biologists, fitted with GPS collars & transported to Colorado for their release.

Happy #NationalHikingDay– get outside & take a hike, you never know what you'll find! Check out this massive fungi Karen Lombard, our director of stewardship and restoration, found while exploring an area for a new trail with partners on our Gobble Mountain Preserve last summer.
