@MintyBadgers I've seen 11 of these in the wild. Maybe one day I'll have seen them all!

@FrogsAndSuch Very nice artwork! How many of these have you seen in the wild?

@dsa_tw Great question! Pennsylvania is situated in the Appalachian Mountains, which is where salamanders first evolved. Therefore, this region has more salamander diversity than anywhere else in the world.

@AmyTeamBre @herpetALLogy It's pretty hard to tell. Generally, females tend to be larger, but that's not a great metric to use. I'm not aware of any reliable ways to tell with toads outside of their mating season.

@FrogsAndSuch @herpetALLogy Hey thanks! Any way to tell if male or female? From my little research it seems to hard to tell without 2 side by side.

Put in a small wildlife pond in my backyard in hopes of a frog/toad. My neighbor found and brought over a toad! I live in Ohio. Any idea what kind or if it’s male or female? @FrogsAndSuch #amphibian #herpetology @herpetALLogy
