Manfred is more interested in getting short-term revenue from Netflix than building long-term fans by televising an event that truly appeals to young people. Personally, I find that a dumb business decision. But it is consistent with some of his other decisions.

Born today in 1982, Yadier Molina. He spent all 19 of his MLB seasons behind the plate for the St. Louis Cardinals. He won nine Gold Gloves, two World Series rings, and made 10 All-Star teams.
He was the third Molina brother to catch in the majors; Bengie and José came first. All three won World Series rings as catchers, making the Molinas the most decorated catching family in baseball history.

@OleTimeHardball The "bad boys" just thought it was good basketball to try to injure their opponents. No one outside of Detroit liked those teams.

Today in 1955: Stan Musial ended one of the greatest All-Star Games ever played.
With the NL trailing 5-0 early, they clawed all the way back. Then in the bottom of the 12th, Musial stepped in against Red Sox pitcher Frank Sullivan.
Legend has it Yogi Berra complained his feet hurt, and Musial told him, "Don't worry, I'll have you home in a minute."
He then crushed the first pitch for a walk-off homer. In a 2011 fan vote, it was named the greatest moment in All-Star Game history.

Today in 1949: Three Dodgers--Roy Campanella, Don Newcombe and Jackie Robinson--and Larry Doby of the Indians broke another color barrier and become the first Black players to appear in an All-Star game.
Fittingly, the Brooklyn Dodgers hosted the game.

Today in 1979: The White Sox held "Disco Demolition Night" at Comiskey Park, inviting fans to bring disco records for a between-games explosion during a doubleheader vs. the Tigers. Over 50,000 fans packed the stadium—thousands more than expected.
When DJ Steve Dahl detonated a crate of vinyl on the field, fans stormed the diamond, tearing up the turf and bases. The field was so damaged the White Sox had to forfeit Game 2.
It remains the last forfeit in American League history.

Today in 1914: 19-year-old Babe Ruth of the Boston Red Sox made his major league debut.
As the starting pitcher, he went 7 innings and beat Cleveland, 4-3. He went 0-for-2 at the plate. He would become one of the most dominant pitchers of his era.
Between 1915-1918 with Boston, his record was 89-46. He won 23 games in 1916 and 24 in 1917.

"The Bird" was must-see television in his day...
MLB Hall of Pretty Good@hallofgoodpod
During his pitching appearances, Mark Fidrych would often give instructions to the baseball and whisper to it. Fidrych explained that he understood he wasn’t actually conversing with the ball. He simply did it to psych himself up and talk through his mechanics.

@MrPitbull07 What a great story. Mark is a terrific guy

In 1986, Mark Harmon was PEOPLE's "Sexiest Man Alive" and Pam Dawber was America's sweetheart on Mork & Mindy.
A mutual friend tried to set them up on a group date, but Mark completely refused. He didn't want a soft, crowded introduction.
He asked for her number so he could cold call her instead.
He made the call, got her answering machine, and started leaving a message asking if she just wanted to grab coffee. Suddenly, Pam picked up.
There were no flashing cameras or carefully staged PR moves. They went out that exact night and they’ve been together ever since.
On March 21, 1987, they got married in a tiny, private chapel at Mark's old high school. No paparazzi. No red carpet. Just two massive TV stars choosing a wonderfully ordinary life.
As they raised their two sons, Sean and Ty, they built an absolute fortress around their family’s privacy.
Pam had already done it all Broadway, hit TV shows, voice acting and she had zero interest in feeding her family to the tabloids.
"Notice you don't see us in the magazines," she once said. "When you're married, that's real life. And to go and plaster your kids... I'm sorry."
Mark kept working (eventually becoming the iconic Gibbs on NCIS), but their home remained completely off-limits to the Hollywood circus.
When asked how they’ve managed to stay together for 39 years in a town famous for bitter divorces, Mark didn't offer some grand, philosophical secret. He chalked it up to maturity. They got married in their 30s, after they had already gotten all the "stupid stuff" out of their systems.

Scottie Pippen made a valid point.🔥
“My problem is more so with LeBron. If you are the greatest player, if people are saying you are the greatest player, or if people are saying Michael Jordan is the greatest player, why do you need to say it? Michael Jordan has never ever said he’s the greatest player to ever play the game. Why? He’s respected all the other players before him. So, for LeBron to say that, he’s sort of pulling himself out of it because you can’t say you’re the greatest player. You have to allow your peers and the world to say that.”

All of us NBA fans 100% agree with Scottie Pippen's opinion.
