Marvel has struck gold again with its new hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, developed by NetEase Games. Released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with cross-platform support, it reportedly attracted over 10 million players in its first 72 hours online. The game allows players to play as iconic Marvel characters like Iron Man and Captain America and not so iconic ones like Jeff the Land Shark (seriously) in a 6v6 player-versus-player battle. Despite some reported balancing issues and concern about the high cost of microtransactions, initial reviews are strong. Are you playing? Who is your favorite character?

Diamond in the Rough? For decades, Diamond Comic Distributors had an absolute monopoly on the direct market. If you were a comic shop who wanted new inventory, you had to go through Diamond owners, the Geppi family, to get it. Now, those days couldn’t seem further away. With the announcement from Boom! Entertainment this week that they will now be distributing comics through their new corporate overlord PRH, the only two major comic publishers that continue to be Diamond exclusive are Dynamite and Titan. Furthermore, retailers are up in arms over complications that have arisen due to the recent closing of their Plattsburgh distribution center on the Canadian border, including late, damaged, and missing books and a lack of clear communication about what and when things are being shipped. Will we be seeing the complete end of an era next year?

Although she’s a relative newcomer to the comics industry, @TrishForstner has already made quite a mark. Getting her start on the IDW My Little Pony series, she would go on to create the smash hit Stray Dogs with writer Tony Fleecs for Image Comics. The absolutely adorably drawn series, about a serial killer who collects the dogs of his victims as trophies, was nominated for both the Eisner and Ringo Awards and was optioned as a movie. The cheerful, clean style of her art is somehow both in stark contrast to and perfectly suited for the dark subject matter of her current books, and for that we salute her!

Chase recently bought the limited-edition hardcover of Ronin Book II by Frank Miller, Philip Tan, and Daniel Henriques. He read the whole thing and with a gun to his head absolutely could not tell you what happened in the story (there was AI and like, a telepathic baby?), but he spent a ton of time with the book because of the amazing art by @philipsytan, working over layouts by Miller. The details are absolutely glorious, and the art alone is worth spending time with, especially because all of Miller’s layouts are included in the back so you can see what Tan developed from what he was working from. We’re excited to see what he does next.

This project looks a little horny but the interior artwork seems like solid quality fun and it sports a variant cover by one of my new favorite artists, @chumahill . So, I thought I would give it a try. The synopsis of the story sounds like a fun “Wedding Hijinx Rom Com” which rarely disappoints when done well – “While on his way to his best friend’s wedding, a groomsman is abducted by aliens.
