When the Athletics aren’t in their Mickey Mouse ballpark, their numbers drop drastically. They have the 5th-highest K% on the road, the 9th-worst wRC+, and the 4th-lowest BB%. 66% of pitchers have gone under 2.5 ER vs the Athletics at home, with over half giving up just 1 ER or less. Pitchers that have given up 3+ ER have included Logan Gilbert, Kodai Senga, and Jose Suarez. So not the best company. Eovaldi is NOT even close to those pitchers. After struggling vs the Phillies and Orioles to start the season, he’s back to his Ace ways. Evoaldi has 4 ER in the last 3 games combined with 17 strikeouts. His whiff% and xBA have plummeted in the last 3 games. Oh yeah, and he’s at home today. Eovaldi is under this line in 10/12 home games since 2025, with 5 games of 0 earned runs. In his last 13 innings vs the Athletics, he’s given up just 1 run and 9 hits. Several players on the As have been hitless vs. Eovaldi in the last 2 seasons, including Kurtz, Cortez, Butler, and Gelof.

Do or die game for both teams so Melo should be up for ~36 minutes after playing 36 minutes in regulation last game against Miami in the same situation. 28 shots in regulation as well. To say he has been incredible is an understatement. 2022 was by far Sandy’s best year when he won the Cy Young. After that year he had a down start followed by TJ surgery, and has struggled to look the same until late last year. In his last 10 starts dating back to last year he is under 2.5 ER in 8/10 (80%). Across 3 starts this year he has pitched 24.1 IP and allowed only 2 ER. The two runs he gave up scored after he had left the game, but they got charged to his record. After two straight games of pitching into the 9th inning, and Sandy being on 4 days rest, I don’t think he will be pushed very far. Not as drastic as him getting pulled at 70 pitches, but I can’t imagine he goes 100+. Tarik Skubal is on the mound for Detroit. Pressure will be on Sandy to pitch a gem as in a game like today a 1 run deficit could feel like 3 runs. In order to be the best, you got to beat the best. Sandy in his rise back to stardom needs a gem today.
