@BilgeEbiri Man, I’ve been saying this for weeks! So weird listening to all the Oscar podcasters act like it was a Brutalist/Emilia Perez dead heat after months of gassing up Anora as the frontrunner. All because of those Globes wins.

You people vowed never to take the Golden Globes seriously again and then you all folded like a house of wet cards.

I’m still not sure why anybody counted ANORA out.

@gr8whitebison I feel like I grew up with almost a knee-jerk reaction against the single. Just listing the song you’re told to pay attention to feels lazy. Sometimes, the single is the best song, but I have more fun going to bat for deep cuts.

Is it possible for one of the best songs of the year to be a deep cut from an album or does it need to be the most successful single from an album

@BobbyOlivier I think the past two years have basically obliterated any debate to the contrary. She is the biggest pop star of my lifetime, let alone this century, and it’s not close!

@FurtherFromSky You can definitely make the argument - I personally am not making it lol - but you can make it

Been nerdily following this countdown for months and pretty sure it's gonna finish like this: 3. Rihanna 2. Taylor (riots ensue) 1. Beyonce

.@Drake is No. 4 on our list of the Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century. 🔥 To celebrate, #BillboardNews is counting down some of his biggest hits on the #Hot100, #Billboard200 and more.

@jimivins That’s Born & Raised for me. Paradise Valley is full on hot, lazy summer vibes.

@FurtherFromSky Well, yes, when you put it that way, it does sound silly to suggest than album with an opening track declaring “a little bit of summer's what the whole year's all about” is not a summer album. I just always looked at Paradise Valley like April/May camping before summer begins.

Fall is John Mayer season. His first four albums are, in my opinion, stone cold stunner fall classics. His next three, I feel, are tailor-made for spring, and Sob Rock was his first play for a summer album. Always fascinating to me the seasonality of an artists’ discography.

Grammys hot take that I think would make the nominations and the show more exciting: don’t allow any overlap between Song of the Year and Record of the Year. As is, the nominees are so interchangeable that a lot of people don’t know what the difference is in those categories.

@gr8whitebison I get them wanting to be well reviewed and shit, but I can’t get over the entitlement. No one owes you praise!

It’s annoying that pop stars can’t just be famous or wealthy or successful anymore but must also be critically beloved

I am partaking in the 10-year retrospective extravaganza for @taylorswift13's '1989'! I wrote about the savviness of Taylor marketing this LP as her first "official" pop play, and about how the songs are often deeper (and sadder) than they get credit for. chorus.fm/reviews/taylor…

Probably my favorite movie of the year, and I still can’t wrap my head around it just totally failing at the box office AND seemingly being greeted with a shrug by even the people who loved Fury Road.

10 years ago, a pop-punk band best known for writing euphoric songs about summer somehow made the album that got me through the death of my grandfather. What an honor to share my story with @Yellowcard and 'Lift a Sail' for @chorusfm. chorus.fm/reviews/yellow…

I wrote about falling in love for the first time, but not in the way you might think. Here’s to the first song, the first album, and the first band that truly stops your heart and changes your life, and to @jimmyeatworld’s ‘Futures’ at 20. Via @chorusfm. chorus.fm/reviews/jimmy-…

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that our favorite albums are both finite and infinite – finite in that you only get so many of those records that truly stop your heart; infinite in that they’ll always feel the way they did when you first fell in love with them.” So good.
