Serious question- Why do some (a lot) people downgrade an album because it was a big commercial success? Does selling a lot of copies make it not as good as an album that flew in under the radar? If all the stars align just right for an album to sell a bazillion copies, does that automatically make the music a “sellout”? Is it possible that the reason an album sells a ton is because the music is good? I don’t understand all the negativity towards albums that sell a lot. Hysteria is one of my favorite albums ever. The songs are great. The sound is great. The production is great. It sold a hundred trillion copies, so does that instantly mean it’s “commercial” and a “sell out”? Help me out here. Chime in!

For me, it wasn’t about sales at all. It was the shift in sound. Early Def Leppard had that raw, in your face Rock n Roll! Hysteria went in a completely different direction, more polished, more produced, and it caught a lot of fans off guard. For some, that change felt like a letdown at the time. That said, I’ve come to appreciate it a lot more over the years for what it is! I still listen to it! Sling the Sleaze!

@FutureKick I did that with Alpha Mission II on the Neo Geo. Practiced at home then went and completed the Arcade (well first loop, then I was tired), got a great crowd.

I did this once, in Manchester near Piccadilly. Even drew a small audience, living my best life 🥹
