In 1977, a family in Enfield reported knocking sounds, moving furniture, and a mysterious voice, creating one of the most debated poltergeist cases ever recorded. Explore this case and many more in the Nanu archive.

@Uber If you get in? Hearing rooms very hot & hard for health conditions triggered by heat. And if protestors disrupt the hearing? Capitol Police literally drag them out OVER YOU, as wheelchair seating often by doors. I've had people pulled over my wheelchair & laptop knocked down. 9/x

@Uber Often, Hill hearings only let another wheelchair user in if another one leaves. So they then let non-disabled people in line BEHIND you in first "because we're out of space". At the hearing, yes, still about life & death issues for chronically ill & disabled folks & families. 8/x

@Uber By now, I'm often starting to faint or tremor & need emergency rescue meds (more cost, effort). And if a Hill office didn't help? You often can't even GET INTO the hearing at all, as only space for MAYBE 1-3 wheelchairs, even if about life & death issues for disabled people. 7/x

@Uber So now, if you're lucky: you're broke, tired, delayed, your meds have been made a public spectacle, security stopped you, you're likely in pain or discomfort. We haven't even gotten to the hearing yet. Which is often in a small room that pre-dates the ADA by literal decades. 6/x

@Uber Hill security also makes it really hard right now when key officials testify. Your meds are publicly handled (mine were today, while line watched). If you're visibly disabled, security details often assume you're a protestor to disrupt the hearing. So you get stopped A LOT. 5/x

@Uber And that's if you (likely plus an aide) can even logistically & physically take this kind of trip while living with a chronic illness or disability. Plus need to be prepared for airline, train, taxi, hotel or otherwise to damage mobility aides or just not accommodate you. 4/x

@Uber bailed (again) on me today once heard they'd have to deal with wheelchair. Wheelchair taxis often aren't available at all or don't show up. And expensive airfare & $500+ night DC hotel rooms? Impossible for most disabled people or families on fixed or low incomes. 3/x

Most barriers to disabled & chronically ill people being "in the room" at key Hill hearings & legislative moments are widely known & totally fixable. But many orgs won't give money or time to ensure representation. Why? Because going to Congress while disabled is HARD. 2/x

As a wheelchair user at Sec. Kennedy Senate HELP hearing today, I again seemed to be only visibly disabled person there. If I missed anyone in the mayhem, I’d be grateful to know. This isn't to erase invisible illness. It's how broader disabled community isn't in these rooms. 1/x
