@bluetriumphst @RealSpitfire The accident rate for US airlines is 1.8 accidents per one million flight hours vs 2.6 accidents per million flight hours. Do private jets have more accidents, yes. Is it a bloodbath? I don’t think so.

@bluetriumphst @RealSpitfire Professionally flown private jets have a safety record approaching the airlines while serving 10X more airports (approximately 500 airports serviced by airlines vs 5,000 for private aircraft) - Airports that are often much more challenging (because infrastructure is less robust).

@bluetriumphst @RealSpitfire The training I undergo is every bit as rigorous as airline pilots (I can speak to that because I have flown for an airline) and costs my employers hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. Maybe don’t use misleading stats to malign an industry you don’t understand…

@bluetriumphst @RealSpitfire That stat is dubious at best. It includes all of general aviation which includes inherently risky endeavors (think airshows and crop dusting) and “weekend warrior”pilots flying piston aircraft.

@androphile @flightradar24 I’ve taxied at airports all over the world. At night, poor visibility, confusing charts, local terminology, ambiguous instructions and I can see how a mistake could be made. As I said “but for the grace of god, there go I.” I would call that humility, not superiority complex.

@androphile @flightradar24 No superiority complex here. Just an observation that it’s easy to talk about how terrible someone is when you’ve never been the one sitting in the front seat with your (and everyone else’s ) ass on the line.

@androphile @flightradar24 Show me where I said it isn’t the pilots’ faults. I said it’s easy to imagine where it could happen, even to good pilots.

@RForeskin29803 @Turbinetraveler Pilot here. It is taught in flight training and reenforced through thousands of hours of experience to trust your sixth sense. If something is telling you there’s a problem (even a “guy feeling”) you don’t ignore it. aopa.org/news-and-media…

It has emerged that Delta flight 466, a Boeing 757-200 from Las Vegas to Atlanta on 16th August, was delayed for over an hour after the Captain refused to fly based on his “gut feeling” — despite the jet being cleared with no issues found by maintenance. It had been 22 years since the Captain last rejected a plane.

@Rob562Now817 The G700 has been certified for a little over a year. The G800 was certified more recently, but no deliveries yet. But to your point, you have to have a lot of money to have either plane (much less both).

@Rob562Now817 The G7 (G500/G600) is an inferior airplane to the G6 (G650/G650ER). The current king of the hill is the G700 which is ~10 feet longer than the G650 (also longer range and slightly faster). The G700 is a GVIII (G8). “No G8?” would be the appropriate dis. Source: I fly a G6 and G8.
