Dedicated funding and strong monitoring are vital for govt and civil society to track delivery on UK WPS commitments. This week GAPS Director Eva Tabbasam told the IDC WPS inquiry that progress on the UK WPS NAP has stalled - and how it can begin to be addressed. #WPS #UNSCR1325

The UK is halfway through its five year National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security, but as Eva Tabbasam of @GAPS_Network told us this week, without a budget and more formal structure there is no way of knowing how effective it is and whether it is achieving its goals.

We maintain that the only way to truly put women and girls at the heart of foreign policy will be to reverse the cuts. The Government’s own Equality Impact Assessment further confirms that these reductions will have negative impacts on Women & Girls. @CommonsIDC

The PM stays committed to tackling #VAWG not just domestically but internationally, but where is the money? @CommonsIDC @CommonsLiaison@CARE⁩ ⁦@Action_Aid

We welcome this report by the IDC which reflects a number of GAPS's longstanding proposals and recommendations. As cuts to UK ODA bite, this is a reminder of the importance of upholding the WPS agenda globally and in the UK. We urge the govt to action its recommendations.

Peace agreements are 64% less likely to fail when women meaningfully participate, yet in 2023 women made up only 9.6% of negotiators. The Government must do more to aid change, and deliver on its obligations to the Women, Peace and Security agenda  ⬇️ committees.parliament.uk/committee/98/i…

Today the Foreign Sec announced the UK's future ODA allocations. Commitments to women & girls & to protect central funding for VAWG, WPS and PSVI are welcome, but significant ODA reductions remain & do not match the scale of global need. Our statement: gaps-uk.org/gaps-resources…

We welcome the Foreign Secretary’s @YvetteCooperMP commitment to the #WomenPeaceSecurity agenda on its 25th anniversary. The UK has reaffirmed its leadership on this agenda, now it’s time to back that commitment with action, funding & accountability. #UNSCR1325 #NoWomenNoPeace
Yvette Cooper@YvetteCooperMP

25 years since #UNSCR1325, the Women, Peace and Security agenda remains central to UK foreign policy. Peace and security are not possible without women. It’s on all of us to help make this a reality.

This month we supported the #ReclaimWPS25 initiative, decentralising and bringing the agenda back to communities, gathering regionally with WROs and CSOs and reflecting on progress, challenges and strategising for the future.
