James and Karen Hanes were active members at GateCity Church. After raising concerns about the Senior Pastor, they were guided into a formal process by Pastor Dustin. What they found was a broken accountability structure, misrepresented facts, and leadership that shut down scrutiny at every level. The idea of picking a “side” was always problematic for me when Billy and I would discuss the topic of IHOPKC. There is way too much emphasis on the powerful and too little emphasis on victims. Billy is hyper focused on those who “lost” their ministry for engaging in this process. The tragedy here seems to be the loss of income, speaking engagements, and credibility for all the men he names. Both on the AG “side” and the IHOPKC “side”.

Here Billy Humphrey laments the fallout from IHOPKC. Shout out to @ericvolz and @malachiobrien excellent work. Anyway, I just want to say a couple of things here about this clip. It's important to point out that this is primarily a conversation with Billy about cooperating with a 3rd Party Investigation. Apparently Billy had a practice of kissing young women on the forehead a behavior that alarmed some people. In and of itself I don't see a problem with that unless there is a problem with that...then it's definitely a problem. Mike Bickle liked to choke people. Nobody saw a problem with that either except for the people that definitely did have a problem with that, especially some of the choked. When the other stories came out about Bickle's SA, his coercion, control, and prophetic manipulation of victims that behavior was seen for what it was...Super F***ing Creepy 😱 At this time a House of Prayer leader submitting to a 3rd Party Investigation would have been a very positive move. To date not one House of Prayer with any allegations has cooperated with an independent investigation into their ministry practices or leadership. They'll make all kinds of excuses for why but really it's because they just don't want to be held accountable and they don't want to lose "their ministry". If an impartial 3rd Party Investigation can tank your ministry then so be it cupcake 🧁 The House of Prayer runs on you. That's the Bickle model. It's fundamentally exploitative and notoriously unaccountable. There are legions of people that can testify to that. God forbid those people should have a voice in the public discourse. Which is what a 3rd Party Investigation would give them. Right now Bethel Church in Redding, CA is doing their own version of verbal gymnastics. Jenn Johnson just gave us a window into the soul of a Bethel leader and apparently The Help are viewed as pie baking accusers of the brethren who are full of shit. ✅ Only time will tell if the leaders there will actually do what it takes. I know this none of the Houses of Prayer did. No not one.
