𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 - 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽. Over four intensive days, we explored one of the most pivotal roles in the governance ecosystem - the Board Secretary. Far beyond administrative oversight, the modern Board Secretary plays a strategic role in shaping board effectiveness, safeguarding governance integrity, and enabling high quality decision-making. From regulatory alignment to board dynamics, documentation discipline to ethical stewardship, the role sits at the heart of organisational accountability. We were privileged to have Alison Dillon Kibirige as faculty for this module, bringing deep international governance expertise and practical boardroom insight to every discussion. A special thank you as well to our distinguished guest speakers: Mutlaq Almorished and Reema Rustam, who enriched the programme with real-world perspectives on governance leadership, executive-board relationships, and the evolving expectations placed on governance professionals in the region. Programmes like this reinforce a critical truth: Strong boards do not happen by chance - they are enabled by robust governance structures and capable governance leaders.
