@JamesMelville Reeves is acting like a stupid 18 year old on minimum wage that’s found you can walk into a shop and sign up for a store card and walk out with £1000 of clothing without spending a penny. Sums up Labour’s fiscal policy of reducing borrowing…oh! ..hang on

The UK government has completely lost any wriggle room to deal with economic shocks. The gilt yields are at record levels and the government is paying more than £100bn in annual debt interest payments. That’s why we are being fleeced on taxes - to service the national debt. But ultimately, the only way to sort this mess out is to transform the UK into a wealth generation country. Root and branch. From small businesses to farming to manufacturing and industry. The number one priority for the government should be to create a new industrial revolution across the UK. Support British made businesses and also reboot so many communities who have been hollowed out with 40 years of deindustrialisation. Invest in British businesses rather than selling everything off to foreign corporations. This should also be combined with a complete overhaul of government spending. Reduce the wastage of what our tax money is spent on.

The Bank of England just sold a 2061 gilt at £23.41. It bought it at £100. A 67% loss, indemnified by you. This is the receipt arriving in the post. From the automation revolution, Britain’s demand-side collapse has already begun, the cognitive middle is the collateral, and the £9.18 trillion of housing wealth on household balance sheets is about to discover what it actually is. The BoE knows. The Treasury knows. No party will say it out loud. The coming recession is merely foreplay. Read the full diagnosis 👇 open.substack.com/pub/anglofutur…

@TheRoyalPant72 @julianHjessop Every litre of petrol/diesel we buy is generating HMRC even more in tax £ revenue since the combined wars in Ukraine and M East have increased the price we pay at the pump. The Labour government has benefited massively from these overseas wars at tax payers expense.

I see Ed Miliband has now deleted this daft tweet, hopefully because someone explained basic economics* to him... (*or at least that very little of BP's global profits will be subject to the UK's windfall tax)

@julianHjessop Milliband the guy who for 2 years is moaning saying the control over oil & gas pricing is set internationally by demand, not companies/countries/individuals, yet when an oil company makes high profits resulting from a price increase it didn’t set they’re the ones in the wrong! 🤡

@Artemisfornow Labour announced the closure of NHS England nearly 2 years ago to applause and relief, the end of a LibDem/Tory unnecessary expensive quango, now Labour U turn spending ££££££ of tax payers money on 1000s of new hires. They can’t stop spending other people’s hard earned money.

Brilliant! The NHS England quango that Starmer said he was abolishing last year because it did the same thing as the department of health ( just without the direct parliamentary scrutiny, you know, because it’s a quango) … is not only still alive and kicking but has advertised for 1200 new roles. LOL it already costs £104 million in salaries. And now it will cost more.

@asianick85 @Artemisfornow @danwootton I said “he’s like” not he is, when you liken someone to something you are saying they are similar to or process the same qualities as. Who cares where or by whom he was actually educated,

This is a smirking Philip Barton admitting that as a Permanent Private Secretary it is not “unheard of” for information to be withheld from their bosses! And Emily Thornberry is stunned. For those asking who runs the country, it isn’t the people you vote for.

@YorkshireWater The shareholders pay the fines, the company pays the shareholders from co. operational profits, the profits come from co. revenue generated from customers, no matter how it’s labeled its money indirectly from customer’s bills. It’s similar, almost, as if the money is laundered.

Hello Gordon Clifford, In regards to your bills being paid out as fines Ofwat are clear that any penalties will not be paid via customer bills. Ofwat regulate our bills and income so to make sure this doesn’t happen because they determine how much we are allowed to bill. Thanks Yorkshire Water

With the warmer months fast approaching, and after months of drought across the region during 2025, we know that lots of you may be thinking about how our water resources are doing this year. That’s why, throughout this spring and summer, we’ll be sharing monthly updates with you to keep you informed and as up-to-date as we can. For April's update, Andy and Charlotte have joined us to share some important information about our current reservoir levels - which are looking healthy - and to answer some of our most asked questions from customers about what we’ve been doing to help preserve water resources and add resilience to the network. Watch the full video here > ow.ly/fZYw50YQUV6 Although reservoir levels are in a good position for this time of year, it’s still really important that we all do our bit to protect supplies. That’s why, while we continue to work on our infrastructure programmes and leakage reduction work, we’re grateful to all our customers for using water wisely. Pictured: Eccup reservoir

Hello Gordon Clifford, The main reason your bill is increasing is to fund a major investment program of £8.3 billion over the next five years. This program is required by Ofwat, the water industry regulator, to meet stricter environmental standards and improve our services. The remaining increase is due to the rising cost of goods and services and the removal of temporary reductions to bills that were in place in 2024. If you have a specific query in regards to the price increase in your bill then please DM us and we will be happy to help. Thanks Yorkshire Water social team

@Rob__Friar @YorkshireWater Customer + 5.6% increase incoming, and having just paid yet another fine of £700,000 for sewage into a stream nr Chesterfield, and ‘forced’ into paying £2.3 million into environmental projects (in lieu of fine) for other pollution incidents. They’re a money pit full of fat cats.

@Rob__Friar @PolitlcsUK @guardian I’m not supporting reform or their housing policy, just disdain for rent control, rent control has been proven to be harmful to low income renters unless there are sufficient ‘council house’ (to use an outdated term) stock, which there isn’t, for when private landlord sell up.

@GCClifford @PolitlcsUK @guardian Not to worry, once Reform come in, all renters rights will be scrapped and we will be back to Dickensian times for many renters, who are probably going to vote Reform.

🚨 Right, Labour is full steam ahead now on introducing an insane tax policy in Jan 2027. This is an emissions tax (called CBAM) on 6 key imports (to start with) including steel, aluminium and FERTILISER. The calculation of the tax is based on the carbon intensity of production and remember fertiliser is incredibly energy intensive to produce. Meaning fertiliser could carry as much as 50% added import costs. Now, the stupid government assumed we would then increase our own production of fertiliser BUT it is incredibly expensive to produce here because of our own net zero emissions restrictions and the cost of energy. Which is why we import it in the first place! All this means that many farmers won’t be able to afford to buy fertiliser at all and those who can will have to vastly increase prices just to cover costs. That means potentially huge increases in food prices and shortages. At exactly the time when the government should be removing barriers for farmers they are doubling down. It’s insane 🚨

@JamesMelville She won’t do that..the majority of Labour voters are shown now to be the super rich, fat cat wealthy type people who drive around in electric vehicles, so reducing the cost of car petrol/diesel only helps the poor and normal minions Labour don’t care about them anymore.
