Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and the Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father….. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. Further , The tearing of the temple veil at the moment of Jesus’ final breath is one of the most powerful symbolic events in the Gospels. In the Old Testament system, the veil (or curtain) was a thick, heavy barrier that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place (the Holy of Holies). Only the high priest could pass beyond that veil, and only once a year on the Day of Atonement, after offering sacrifices for his own sins and for the sins of the people. The veil represented the separation between a holy God and sinful humanity. Direct access to the presence of God was strictly limited and mediated through the priesthood and the sacrificial system. When Jesus cried out, “It is finished!” and breathed His last, the veil was torn in two from top to bottom. The fact that it was torn from top to bottom shows that God Himself was the One doing the tearing — not man. This dramatic act symbolized the complete fulfillment and ending of the old covenant system. The barrier that had stood between God and people for centuries was supernaturally removed. Because of Jesus’ perfect, once-for-all sacrifice on the cross, the need for an earthly priest or a physical temple as an intercessor was eliminated. No longer does anyone have to go through a human mediator — whether a priest, a pastor, or any religious institution — to approach the Father. Jesus Himself has become the Great High Priest and the one Mediator between God and humanity. His death opened the way for every believer to enter boldly into the very presence of God through faith in Him. The writer of Hebrews explains this reality clearly: because the veil is torn, we now have “confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh.” Every follower of Christ can come directly to the Father in prayer, without needing to go through any other person or place. The church building or any human religious structure is no longer a required intermediary; it is simply a place where believers gather to worship, learn, and encourage one another. Access to God is now immediate and personal for anyone who comes to Him through Jesus. In short, the torn veil declares that the way to the Father is wide open. No priest, no temple, no religious ritual stands between you and God anymore. Jesus has made the way, and He invites every person to come directly to the Father through Him — freely, confidently, and at any time.
