Following day one of discussions in Budapest at the Canada–EU SAFE Conference, one theme came through clearly: defence advantage now depends on industrial depth, interoperability, and the ability to deliver capability at pace. As Europe and Canada deepen cooperation under SAFE, conversations focused on practical execution, resilient supply chains, integrated systems, procurement alignment, and scaling production across allied industry. Joel Houde, Vice President and General Manager, represented General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada on the panel Critical Advanced Technologies and European Needs, discussing how integration-led approaches and allied innovation can help address evolving capability needs in areas such as surveillance, cyber defence, autonomous systems and AI. Thank you to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hungary and all organisers for bringing together industry, government and partners for a valuable exchange.

🎤 Joel Houde, Vice President and General Manager is taking the stage at the Canada-EU SAFE Conference in Budapest, representing General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada. As Canada’s systems integrator, our role sits at the intersection of capability, industry, and delivery – bringing together partners to design, build, and integrate mission-ready solutions for tomorrow’s warfighting challenges. With Canada joining the EU’s SAFE framework, the emphasis is on scale and momentum: aligning supply chains, accelerating delivery, and integrating capabilities across domains and borders in support of allied forces. Because future advantage comes from integration, not siloed technologies. This is where collaboration becomes integral. We’re looking forward to sharing how we’re delivering coalition-ready capability today – and how an integration-first approach supports stronger transatlantic defence.

Colombia’s maritime environment rarely settles. Between the Caribbean and Pacific, and waters threaded with dense commercial traffic, the Armada Nacional (Colombian Navy) operates against a constant underwater backdrop that never goes quiet. In this instalment of Echoes Across the Globe, we look at how our Anti-Submarine Warfare capability is being integrated into Colombia’s next generation of surface combatants, as part of the Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) program – supporting sustained awareness beneath complex, high-activity sea lanes. Great to be on the ground at this week’s Canadian Armed Forces Outlooks, standing shoulder to shoulder with those who serve, and alongside industry as we work together to strengthen Canada’s defence future. Across Army, Air Force, and Navy Outlook days, one theme was clear: delivering operational advantage demands tighter integration between defence and industry, and the ability to move from insight to impact, faster. At General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada, that’s exactly where we operate. Every iteration, every integration, aimed at one outcome: clearer decisions, faster actions, safer missions. Kudos to @CadsiCanada for organizing this trio of events.

Modern warfare is fast, unpredictable, and decentralized. Warfighters operate in contested and communication-denied environments where traditional networks can fall short. More than a network, MESHnet is designed to help meet that challenge, enabling resilient, mission-critical connectivity at the tactical edge. MESHnet helps frontline forces stay connected and informed throughout the mission by supporting reliable data sharing between dismounted troops, vehicles and command elements. As sponsors of the FRC Team 2706: Merge Robotics, we’re proud to see them return from their first competition with an award – and a strong playoff run. Since January, they’ve designed and built a 120-pound, remote-controlled, semi-autonomous robot to take on this year’s challenge. Their work earned the Engineering Inspiration Award, recognizing both technical approach and community impact. This is exactly the kind of initiative we stand behind – hands-on, team-based engineering that builds confidence and real capability, with skills that carry well beyond the competition floor. We’re especially proud to have three of our colleagues, Kevin, Ariel, and Ethan, mentoring the team.
