‼️ En 2026 se diagnosticarán 301.884 nuevos casos de cáncer, 📈 un 2% más que el año anterior. Más de 8.000 serán en personas #jóvenes 🟣 👫 Detrás de las cifras siempre hay nombres, vidas y proyectos que no esperaban esta noticia. Por eso hoy, en el Día Mundial del Cáncer, hablamos en este vídeo de #cáncerdemama 🩺, sin dejar de pensar en todos los demás. 🚀 Porque en GEICAM llevamos más de 30 años apostando por el avance científico en #oncología y queremos cambiar estas cifras. 💡 Great discussions and meaningful insights emerged from #ESMOBreast26 🚀 Among the highlights for our team was the presentation of this study, not only for its scientific significance, but also for its direct relevance to the lives of patients and caregivers 👇 🔬➡️ We presented findings from an #ethnographic study examining the real-world experiences of patients living with metastatic breast cancer and their #caregivers in Spain. 🤝 Conducted by @GileadSciences España y Portugal with scientific guidance from @GEICAM, the study extends beyond traditional clinical endpoints to characterize the emotional, social, and practical challenges experienced across the disease trajectory. 📋 Drawing on interviews and ethnographic questionnaires completed by 31 #patients and 10 caregivers, the study shows that needs change across disease stages, from the initial impact of diagnosis to long-term management and end-of-life care 🧠 The findings also highlight underrecognized dimensions of the patient experience, including body image, sexuality, and the psychological burden associated with #metastatic disease. 🎯 The results indicate that patient experiences differ by #breastcancer subtype, underscoring the need for more personalized and comprehensive models of care. 💟🧬 Overall, the study reinforces the importance of integrating psychosocial support, stronger communication strategies, and patient-centered resources into #oncology care to address unmet needs that extend beyond medical treatment alone. 🧪 We leave this year’s congress with a strong sense of progress and shared learning, and we look forward to advancing this work through continued research and collaboration 🙌 We are eager to see the next steps in this field.

🟣 El cáncer de mama en el #varón sigue siendo una realidad poco visible que requiere un abordaje específico, coordinado y basado en la evidencia 🔬 Por ello, jornadas como “Cáncer de mama en el varón: abordaje y avances en investigación” y la “Jornada de Concienciación del Cáncer de Mama Masculino” son clave para actualizar conocimientos, dar visibilidad y avanzar hacia una atención más integral y multidisciplinar. 📍 En este contexto, profesionales sanitarios se reunieron en el Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet para profundizar en aspectos como la clasificación de la enfermedad, el diagnóstico integrado, el abordaje multimodal o los últimos avances en #investigación básica y traslacional 🧬 👨‍⚕️ Nuestro presidente, el doctor Ander Urruticoechea, participó en la charla ‘Cáncer de mama en el varón, ¿otra entidad?’, en el marco de la jornada científica celebrada en el Miguel Servet, así como en una mesa redonda de la “Jornada de Concienciación del Cáncer de Mama Masculino”, organizada por @asociacioninvi, aportando su visión clínica e investigadora sobre este desafío. 🤝 Desde @GEICAM, queremos dar las gracias a todas las entidades y personas implicadas en la organización de estas iniciativas y, especialmente, a la asociación INVI, por su implicación constante para dar visibilidad al #cáncerdemama en el varón, una realidad sobre la que es fundamental seguir generando conversación y conciencia. #CáncerDeMamaMasculino #CáncerDeMamaVarón

🔬 Kicking off at #ESMOBreast26! 🧪 Supporting research in HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer. ➡️ The GEICAM/2020-08 TrasTUCAN study, a phase II academic clinical trial exploring new treatment combinations in a highly pretreated patient population. 🔎 The study, led by Dr. Yolanda Jerez, first author and medical oncologist at Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, as well as one of the Principal Investigators of the study together with Dr. Isabel Álvarez, also a medical oncologist at Hospital Universitario de Donostia, 💊 evaluated the combination of trastuzumab, tucatinib and oral vinorelbine in patients with locally advanced unresectable or #metastatic HER2-positive #breastcancer who had received multiple prior lines of therapy. 💡 At the doses tested, side effects were more frequent and more severe than expected. The main safety concern was severe neutropenia (a marked drop in white blood cells), which increased infection risk and led to early study termination. Treatment activity was modest, in line with what is commonly seen in heavily pretreated populations. ✅ Despite these limitations, the findings provide valuable insights for future #research, highlighting the complexity of developing new combinations after multiple treatment lines and the importance of careful dose selection and early-phase study design. 👏 We are very proud to present these results at #ESMOBC26, as they reflect the value of academic, independent research in advancing knowledge even when studies do not progress as initially expected. 📄Building on the recent results shared by @GEICAM, we would like to add the transcriptomic analysis from the GEICAM/2013-02 #PEARL study, published in @JCO_ASCO, which provides new insights to further advance the personalization of treatment in HR+/HER2− metastatic #breastcancer (MBC). 🔍 A translational study led by Prof. Miguel Martín and Prof. Charles Perou (University of North Carolina, USA) explored gene expression features to identify which patients may benefit more from #palbociclib + endocrine therapy (ET) versus #capecitabine (chemotherapy) in tumors resistant to aromatase inhibitors. 🧪 In the setting of ET-resistant HR+/HER2- MBC, #PAM50 intrinsic subtype and B-cell-associated tumor gene expression signatures could help predict which patients would benefit more from continuing ET-based treatment with CDK4/6 inhibition or switching to chemotherapy-based treatment. 💡 These results reinforce the value of translational research in advancing precision #oncology and supporting more informed clinical decision-making based on the biological characteristics of each tumor in patients with MBC. ➡️ Access the full publication here: ascopubs.org/doi/full/10.12…

‼️🚀 We continue with another contribution from @GEICAM at #AACR26. 🧪 The FLAMINGO-01 study, sponsored by @GreenwichLS, with very active participation from GEICAM, presents, in poster format, preliminary results on the immune response generated by a therapeutic vaccine in patients with #HER2+ breast cancer. 👨‍⚕️ This work includes Dr. Miguel Martín (founder of GEICAM and its President for over 30 years until 2025) among its authors. 🧬 Flamingo-01 is an ongoing Phase III study evaluating the efficacy and safety of GLSI-100 (GP2 + GM-CSF), a vaccine designed to “train” the #immunesystem to better recognize tumour cells in patients with residual disease or high risk pathologic complete response at surgery who have completed standard anti-HER2 therapies. 🔬 The data presented focus on delayed-type hypersensitivity immune response, providing early evidence that the vaccine can activate the immune system in these patients. 💡 These initial findings represent a meaningful step forward in the development of immunotherapeutic strategies that could help reduce the risk of recurrence in HER2+ #breastcancer. 🟣🙌 We are honoured to contribute to these advances and to share our work alongside leading international #research at #AACR26. 🗺️ Here's a map showing the majority of participating clinical sites in Europe. 🔬👏 We are pleased to share that @GEICAM is contributing to #AACR26 (Annual Meeting of the @AACR) with two communications in which we have actively collaborated. 🌍 This congress represents a key meeting point for the global #cancerresearch community, bringing together scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to present the latest advances across the full spectrum of #cancer research, from prevention to clinical studies and survivorship. 🧬 One of these contributions is the #CONFLUENCE project, presented as a mini-oral in which GEICAM contributes with biological samples and clinical data from patients included in three GEICAM studies: GEICAM 2017/07 EMBARCAM (415 patients), epiGEICAM (865 patients and 834 healthy controls) and the GEICAM 2016/04_Male Breast Cancer Registry (181 patients and 109 healthy controls). 🤝 The CONFLUENCE project is a large international collaboration coordinated by the National Cancer Institute (@theNCI) involving multiple #breastcancer consortia, biobanks, and individual research studies, studying breast cancer in females, males, and carriers of breast cancer susceptibility genes. It is focused in building a large #research resource to uncover breast cancer genetics through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in diverse populations. 📝 This ambitious international initiative represents the largest multi-ancestry GWAS in breast cancer to date:  with around 290 #studies from 61 countries, CONFLUENCE includes over 400,000 breast cancer cases and 1,700,000 controls, nearly tripling the effective sample size of previous GWAS and substantially increasing sample diversity across multiple ancestries, including non- European. 🔍 The CONFLUENCE project has identified 545 independent susceptibility loci (from which 273 are novel), substantially expanding explained #genetic risk across ancestry groups and building a new Polygenic Risk Score (PRS) that has outperformed the established 313-variant PRS. 🙌 This international effort marks a major step forward in understanding the genetic basis of the disease, improving prevention strategies, and moving towards more precise and personalized diagnosis for breast cancer #patients worldwide. 💜 We are proud to be part of such a landmark project and to contribute to its impact within the global research community! 🤓 More information about the #ConfluenceProject can be found here: ➡️ dceg.cancer.gov/research/cance…
