@LaForgesVisor @AbsCoverage Mayhaps. Bowman still has to pull the trigger and get the best out if this deal for his team. 97 isn’t a selfish player, and I’m sure he’d be willing to put at least one Canadian team on his tradelist. At the moment, the Habs are the best run Canadian team from top to bottom

@GELemus13 @AbsCoverage Also McDavid appears to hate media attention. Drai handles the tough questions most of the time post game. He’s leaving Canada, yes the Habs have a great young team, but so do the Sharks. He can go down to Dallas. He is said to fly to LA on extended breaks. Ducks could land him

You don't trade Jacob Fowler. You run an elite young goalie tandem for as long as possible. #GoHabsGo

@LaForgesVisor @AbsCoverage Sure. It starts there— high. But negativos toons tend to find an equilibrium over time. It would be a non-starter for the Habs, and they’d go through different iterations. This would be my final offer — which, btw, solves their backend and netminding perennial issues

@GELemus13 @AbsCoverage The offer starts with Demidov, and that would be horrible for the Habs. Demidov, Hage, Fowler, Zharovsky and a 1st is what it would take. Not getting McDavid without several of your top young players

@KnowsPuck @no_salary_ @AbsCoverage When your top two franchise players criticize the organization as a whole from top to bottom, the team definitely loses leverage. The fact that 97 took a massive discount to stay on a short-term deal also changes things for them, AND he’s has a full NMC

@no_salary_ @AbsCoverage They don’t have the leverage people make them to have —especially with 97 and Leon coming out so strong on the media. 97 only has two years left with a NMC, & on top of that, we can fill their needs at virtually every position for them to give Leon a solid run in the playoffs

@GELemus13 @AbsCoverage No chance Edmonton gives away McDavid without getting a true 1C in return Especially not for Hage (a prospect still in the NCAA for 1 season) & Kapanen (a 3C atm)

@GELemus13 @AbsCoverage Would cost Suzuki + one prospect + one of our dmen. I’d rather wait 2 years until his free agency, we’ll likely be a solid cup contender by then and McDavid’s addition to the group will solidify it

@O_Jay1105 @Paqss_ @brendanlemire @jpolly22 Players can be moved, contracts are expiring soon. The team has also bought into a culture where everyone leaves money on the table for a more competitive team. Demidov’s playoffs aren’t that great thus far, so he’ll probably be in the $8M just like the rest of the core

@GELemus13 @Paqss_ @brendanlemire @jpolly22 I mean the Habs won’t be able to afford a Demidov extension if they get McDavid because they already only have 9 million in cap space this summer

IF (and that is IF) Connor McDavid were to get traded before his new contract expires… The Montreal Canadiens make the most sense to me. They’re already contenders and have the assets to make it happen without compromising their current roster too much. They also have one of the best goaltending prospects in the game to send to Edmonton. This team is one more elite centre away from being at the top of the top, and McDavid would fit in like a glove. He could still bring the Cup back to Canada, just in blue, white… and red 🔵⚪️🔴

@O_Jay1105 @Paqss_ @brendanlemire @jpolly22 Also the Habs are basically one of the only teams able to offer as Baku ale package without significantly hurting their lineup and future, which could deter other teams with assets but not enough depth in their roster & pipeline.

@O_Jay1105 @Paqss_ @brendanlemire @jpolly22 EDM can unload one of them elsewhere, if needed. They need transition players with the ability to munch minutes and produce. They need a goalie and other prospects not in D & F able to impact the game. The Habs have them

@O_Jay1105 @Paqss_ @brendanlemire @jpolly22 But it’s not only about a bidding war. You have to consider fit for the organization too. At the end of the day bowman is the one who’ll pull the trigger, and he’ll only do it if he can get the best fit for his team which at this point seems to be with MTL

@O_Jay1105 @Paqss_ @brendanlemire @jpolly22 97 & Leon being so outspoken reduces Oilers leverage. 97 only has 2 years left to his contract. Habs are best fit in almost all positions for a trade. Oilers need a veteran D to stabilize their & eat important minutes while producing, Matheson can do that at a cap friendly salary

@GELemus13 @Paqss_ @brendanlemire @jpolly22 If McDavid demands a trade. As long as he names more than one team the Oilers have leverage because it will start a bidding war, not to mention even if he says trade me to Montreal the oilers would not want Matheson what so ever

@SeanA4417 @jpolly22 It’s not been just one season and their superstars want out. Their upper management has been a disaster and their playoff performances have been lackluster with the leafs only moving on to the second 2rd twice in ten years.

@GELemus13 @jpolly22 A decade of being a top team in the toughest division then one off season makes them dumpster fire??? Not. Edmonton by far is worse than Toronto but it gets masked by being in the weakest division. The media driven narrative youre pushing is tiresome

@gag_kev @TotallyAllIn @jpolly22 If you’re the likes and need stability —as they do— on the backend plus a better transition game, and the ability to play solid minutes on both the pk and pp, then yes— you consider that. And Matheson comes with a reasonable salary

@GELemus13 @jpolly22 And then with the newly acquired space and picks, attach picks and jarry and or Fred to clean it out. Shows Connor you’re serious about fixing the issue. This will never happen but IMHO it’s the only way out.

@SeanA4417 @jpolly22 Toronto’s a dumpster fire. I don’t know why McDavid would want to go from a team that went to SCFs and was in the playoffs this year to one that hasn’t. He has a NMC. While Knies is a great piece he doesn’t fill the needs EDM has.

@GELemus13 @jpolly22 That's where if Toronto added Knies to a deal it would be a better roster add than anything Pittsburgh could. If its a rebuild then Edmonton would be better off with Pittsburgh but that would also mean Draistyl also being traded. A rebuild means moving both.. a retool just one
