Really good test though. I scored lower than I did on Raven's matrices a few years ago, blame that on covid and old age senility

@_nonfigurativ_ @MasterTimBlais If you're a Silicon Valley hotshot which seems to be the target audience for these retreats, $4000 for a week of meditation at a luxury venue is probably a negligible expense. (I did their online retreat for $1300 and found it a bit pricey for what I got, but not egregiously so)

@Orthon_Spaceman Imagine my disappointment when I started my MENA studies degree and everyone else was interested in "Queering Egypt: a decolonial study of Cairo gay blogs" instead of collecting funny suits.

The 19th century version of ”guy who listens to world music” is an incredibly racist man who dresses in various combinations of unrelated exotic garments from the colonies and read oriental literature. He used to be a spy and his wife is big into theosophy.

In Scandinavia we solve this with a piece of social technology called "ask the person behind you".

Thank god the Americans are arguing about whether reclining your seat on the airplane is okay or not, I couldn't stand another day of celsius vs fahrenheit discussion.

a test for any ideology is whether it can coherently describe a "good" member of the implied outgroup. what does a good heterosexual man look like? a good Muslim immigrant? a good working mom? a good rich person? if an ideology can't offer this, the ideology itself is evil
Jakeup@myhandle

the MeToo industrial complex takes it as a given that all men are rapey brutes, and as such are only moved by a cold calculus of sex vs punishment and not by a desire to be moral and do good. in that ledger there are only two types of men: predator or coward

I think this also describes me, in 2020 I decided to quit and do a radically different path, I've had my ups and downs, and I found new highs! But looking back at my highs I've always sabotaged my successes which meant I could not stack over them over time. 😭

friend of mine has been burned out in every job for years and thinks he just needs to "take some more time off" to get back to how he was before. :( I'm sorry, if it's been years it's probably not going to be so easy

@FuturistCunt I can't do that because it would seem like male on female violence, you'll have to ask a woman

words like “washed” and “chopped” and “shredded” and “cooked” point to a larger potential literary universe of slang. consider: - sliced - diced - grilled - minced - julienned - seared - brined - pickled - peeled you just got peeled bruh. he fucken peeled u bruh

@DrTechlash Factory farming is concentration camp for animals and if improving the conditions makes animal products more expensive, that's a perfectly fine sacrifice to make.

This story is about how Dustin Moskovitz spent nearly half a billion dollars on animal-welfare activism, which critics say has driven up costs and hurt everyday Americans. But replace animal welfare with AI x-risk and Impossible Foods with Anthropic, and it's the same M.O. 1. Fund campaigns for tighter AI regulation while being deeply invested in the company positioned to benefit from it. 2. Fund the information ecosystem – journalism, communications organizations, and policy institutes – in order to shape the messaging. The issue is framed as an overwhelming moral emergency, making extraordinary restrictions seem politically necessary.
