For those who don't know, best-seller lists are determined by murky formulas that take into account not just total aggregate sales, but things like sale velocity, rolling averages, and, importantly, spreading the volume around to a bunch of different sales channels. Ordering from Barnes & Noble and Books A Million gets you the same product as Amazon, sometimes cheaper, and also can do your favorite author a favor by bumping them up the best-seller list.

@0bNARA something really bizarre happened to me multiple times in Beijing I'd be talking to my gf in Chinese, then someone would come up, address her saying "his chinese is very good!", and ignoring my completely when I reply in Chinese like I was her pet, not worth talking to directly
