The Summer Olympics are here once again and everyone at Gleaning for The World want to wish Team USA all of the best in their pursuit of Gold Medals. Prayers for a safe and exciting Summer Games for everyone.

We were happy to help Operation Paws for Homes with pet food through our Gleaning For Pets program. This program is made possible through our partnership with Greater Good Charities. When animal welfare agencies save on pet food and supplies they can help more animals in need.

By working with GreaterGood, the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, and all of the shelters, rescues, sanctuaries and pantries across the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are proud to work with our friends in animal welfare across Virginia.

Do you want to lend a hand? We need volunteers to help with our Pet Food Collection (inside) at Pet and Aquatics Warehouse (2408 Wards Rd, Lynchburg) this Friday (7/12). The event is from Noon to 6:00 PM. If you are interested in helping, call us at 434-993-3600.

Starting Monday, July 8th P.A.W. will be accepting donations in store, or Join us on Friday, July 12th, 10:00 AM -6:00 PM at P.A.W. All pet food and supply donations will be used to help animals during disasters.

Today is National US Postage Stamp Day! Gleaning receives packages with donations and letters from all over the country. As a matter of fact, when we receive packages and letters from far away, we display them on the walls in our administrative area of Gleaning.

Last week we delivered multiple cases of bottles of water and crackers to the Lynchburg CBOC (Community-Based Outpatient Clinic - for the VA). We check in each month to see if the clinic has any needs we can meet. To donate to this program, visit gleaningcharity.org/donate

Most people enjoy fireworks, but for many pets fireworks are stressful and scary. Did you know more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year? In The Event Your Pet Does Get Lost, visit lost.petcolove.org. This service is completely free!

Firework Safety for Pets While humans may enjoy the spectacle of fireworks, for some pets, like during thunderstorms, fireworks can cause significant stress. This may manifest as violent shaking, trembling, excessive drooling, barking, howling, attempts to hide or escape.

Returning Home After a Hurricane - - Pay attention to local officials for information. - Wear protective clothing, use face coverings or masks. - Do not touch electrical equipment. - Use the buddy system. - Do not wade in flood water. - Save phone calls for emergencies.
