Many of you probably don’t understand why Dr. Fauci invoked the Fifth today. That’s a constitutional legal protection—it is not, by itself, an admission of guilt or innocence.
The reality is that the COVID-19 vaccines were authorized as emergency countermeasures during a global pandemic that claimed countless lives. If you chose not to be vaccinated and survived, be thankful, because many of us buried people we loved and will never get them back.
I don’t fault people who were afraid to be around those who weren’t taking precautions. We were dealing with an airborne virus that devastated families and communities. Fear was real because the loss was real.
Dr. Fauci’s testimony today does not erase what happened, nor does it automatically vindicate every decision that was made by individuals during the pandemic. We should remember the lives that were lost and approach these conversations with honesty, humility, and compassion.

Dr. Fauci spent his life trying to save lives, and now he's going to be harassed for the rest of his life because Trump and Republicans rather blame him than blame Trump for all of the people who died from the virus.
