That was the architecture of a protestant celibate monastic order. OK for terminal monastics but the widespread attraction of our society to an overly "clean" and "minimal" aesthetic is probably VERY unhealthy. Zero TFR Architecture.

Back in 2003, a German film crew filming in the Gobi Desert captured an incredibly moving moment: after a tough two-day birth, a mother camel rejected her newborn. A nomadic family then performed the ancient Hoos singing ritual passed down for generations. Once the song ended, the camel shed tears and finally accepted her baby. This powerful scene became one of the most memorable parts of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Story of the Weeping Camel.

Dogs are functionally a different species from gray wolves, feral dogs never return to a wolf shape, they stabilize as 40lb "yellow dogs." Large dogs are a small animal with inherited gigantism. Like if you bred humans up to Gorilla size, they die young.
Kairo@Kairo_Anatomika

Why do large dogs have heart problems so often? Large breed the dogs live shorter life because their hearts give out. But these large breed dogs are usually smaller than wolves. So at what point during dog domestication did these large dogs start developing weaker Hearts than their wild counterparts?

I grew up in dairy country, and now 100% of the small farms are run by Mennonites who immigrated in, have 7 kids, kids all work. The locals do not want 7 kids, couldn't make them work if they had them, and don't want to milk cows. Reform occured via outright replacement.

@Ussliberty6867 @Drew_W3ld0n @AgroNationalism 20 to 40 cow diaries used to dot the countryside. Large families provided cheap labor and the towns were thriving. Not one family that farms 2000 acres while a few others work at dollar general and cenex while the rest of the town dies.

Absurd and inhuman violence is spreading ferociously through the sacred places of the Christian East, profaned by the blasphemy of war and the brutality of business, with no regard for people’s lives, which are considered at most collateral damage of self-interest. But no gain can be worth the life of the weakest, children, or families. No cause can justify the shedding of innocent blood.

Jeff Davis replaced generals he personally didn't like, and kept generals he personally liked. Lincoln would happily put a man in charge that hated him, if he thought he would do a good job. That's why Beauregarde, one of the best Confederate generals, languished in a coastal department. Beauregarde even wrote extensive letters to Davis about how to stop Grant out West - strategies that would probably have worked, but Davis's men on the ground couldn't implement them.
Boris Ryvkin@BRyvkin

If Jefferson Davis had been as ruthless as Lincoln in replacing his generals, particularly in the Western Theater with the Army of Tennessee, the Confederacy may have fared better than it did.

So l actually just looked this up and apparently it's true.. middle children are dwindling. In the 1970's, it was common to have three or four children. Today, almost 65% of women with children only have one or two. So the "middle child" is becoming increasingly rare. The fact that middle children are going extinct is the most middle child thing I've ever heard.

Coming from an evangelical background, I always thought the Augustinian tradition on sexuality—and Humanae Vitae in particular—was prudish, overly restrictive, and out of touch. It seemed like the Church was policing something that didn't need policing. Then I spent years prosecuting sex crimes. What I saw was the full downstream consequences of a culture that had systematically detached sexuality from its proper context, from permanence, from fidelity, from openness to life, from the dignity of the other person. The people I prosecuted weren't monsters who appeared from nowhere. They were the products of a logic that, followed to its end, produces exactly what Paul VI warned it would produce in 1968: the reduction of the human person to an object of use. Humanae Vitae reads differently when you've seen what it's describing. The document isn't prudish; it's prophetic.
