In Senegal, Badienou Gox (or neighbourhood godmothers) are trusted community leaders who support women and families across every stage of maternal, newborn, and child health: from pregnancy and prenatal care to safe delivery, child vaccination, nutrition, and family planning. Astou, a neighbourhood godmother, shares how these women work alongside health workers to encourage families to seek care early and overcome sociocultural barriers that can prevent women from accessing services. They offer guidance, trust, and long-term commitment to the well-being of mothers and children.
