1/n: I could be wrong, of course, but my take about this hantavirus outbreak is less about the actual outbreak and more about what it means in the context of the last two decades and moving forward. Let me explain...

World Health Organization (WHO)
Update on #hantavirus: As of 12 May, 12h00 CEST, a total of 11 cases, including 3 deaths, have been reported. Nine of the 11 cases are confirmed, and the other 2 are probable. All are among passengers or crew on the ship. We expect more cases given the dynamics of spread on a ship and the virus’ incubation period. At the moment, there is no sign that we are seeing the start of a larger outbreak. Passengers and crew are being followed up in their countries, where WHO recommends a 42-day quarantine at home or in a facility starting from day of departure from the ship. Cases of "flesh-eating" Buruli ulcer are on the rise in New South Wales, Australia. The infection, spread by mosquitoes and potentially carried by possums, can cause severe ulcers and muscle damage if left untreated. Fortunately, it can be prevented by avoiding mosquito exposure, and treated with antibiotics or surgery. Read more in the @ConversationEDU: theconversation.com/flesh-eating-b…

India's immunization journey is one of public health's most compelling success stories, with its impact reaching far beyond its borders. From eliminating polio at home to supplying more than 60% of the world's vaccines, India has become a cornerstone of global immunization efforts. It has been built on decades of scientific investment, a vast network of community health workers, and hard-won public trust in vaccines. @naveenthacker traces this journey, and why its experience holds vital lessons for the world. 🔗 asianage.com/opinion/column… #WorldImmunizationWeek #VaccinesWork #WIW2026 #MakeInIndia
