Troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police seized approximately 40 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Ridley Township on February 26. During the stop, several indicators of criminal activity led troopers to deploy K9 Ivan for a vehicle sniff. The K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle. Inside, investigators located roughly 40 pounds of marijuana packed in boxes and buckets, along with approximately $6,000 in cash. The Murfreesboro Police Department is urging residents to use its Safe Exchange Zone after a man was robbed at gunpoint while attempting to sell a gold chain he listed on Facebook Marketplace. The 48-year-old victim met a group of men at a home on Blaze Drive on February 9. During the encounter, two suspects pointed handguns at the victim and stole the chain before fleeing in a vehicle. MPD recommends residents arrange online sales in the department’s Safe Exchange Zone at 1004 N. Highland Avenue. The area is well-lit, monitored by cameras, and provides a safer location for in-person transactions. Last month, 17-year-old Regun Donahue was sworn in as a Special Deputy Sheriff with the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, becoming the first person in decades to receive the honor. Shortly afterward, he passed away following a long and courageous battle with cancer. In the time they were blessed to know him, Regun left a lasting impact on everyone at the Sheriff’s Office. His smile could light up a room, and his strength inspired all who met him. He quickly became part of the department’s family. The South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police is continuing to push for legislation that would increase penalties for anyone who kills or injures a law enforcement K9. Officers and their K9 partners recently gathered at the South Carolina State House to support the bill, which would raise penalties for killing a police dog from the current range of one to five years in prison to two to ten years, along with higher fines and restitution for the cost of the animal. K9s are not equipment. They are partners who protect officers and communities every day.
