Building future leaders through service. Criminal Justice students from Blue River Career Programs spent the day volunteering with F.O.P Auxiliary Lodge #84 in Shelbyville, assisting with community service efforts at the Shelby County Memorial. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to leadership, responsibility, and giving back to the community. This week, we honor the men and women behind the walls who serve with perseverance, professionalism, and heart. In one of the toughest environments in the criminal justice system, they continue to show up day in and day out. We see you, we respect you, and we thank you for everything you do. #NationalCorrectionalOfficersWeek #CorrectionalOfficers #BehindTheWalls #ThinGrayLine #Corrections #LawEnforcement #PublicSafety #ServiceAndSacrifice #HonorAndRespect #ThankYou #FOP

A powerful reminder of the impact small acts of compassion can have in the midst of crisis. A 99.1 JOY FM listener shared that her two children, ages 5 and 9, were given prayer bears by a police officer after witnessing a traumatic family altercation. The children held tightly to the bears for comfort, which included the scripture Isaiah 4:10: “Do not be afraid… I am with you.” The bears were originally donated to a local police department for situations just like this—providing reassurance and stability to children during frightening moments. A simple gesture that brought comfort when it was needed most. Credit: 99.1 JOY FM (used for informational purposes) #CommunityCare #Hope #FOPStrong #BackTheBlue

Building trust starts early. Pennsylvania State Police Sergeants Irons and Lewis spent time with students at Little Moore Nursery School, teaching important lessons on safety, stranger awareness, and being a good helper. The visit included a tour of a police cruiser and story time with the troopers—creating a positive, engaging experience for the students. Moments like these help build strong relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Officers Taylor Prugel and Noah Riha responded to reports of baby mallards trapped in a storm sewer. Without hesitation, Officer Prugel entered the drain to safely retrieve the ducklings while Officer Riha assisted above. All were safely reunited with their mother, who wasted no time leading them away. Great work by both officers - another example of stepping in when it matters, no matter how small the call may seem.
