Discussions with the Quadripartite and the GLG on AMR, focusing on the progress made in establishing the Independent Panel on Evidence for Action against AMR #IPEA, were very productive. The GLG emphasizes the need for the Quadripartite @FAO, @UNEP, @WHO and @WOAH to expedite the finalization of the roadmap and process, with extensive consultations with Member States to ensure their continued engagement and support. Evidence-based solutions are essential to effectively #ActOnAMR. The GLG remains fully engaged in supporting the establishment of #IPEA. #AMR #OneHealth

2025 was a landmark year for global public health: -The @WHO Pandemic Agreement was adopted; -amended International Health Regulations entered into force; -United Nations General Assembly adopted an ambitious political declaration on noncommunicable diseases and mental health. Now, Member States are negotiating the WHO Pandemic Agreement annex on pathogen access and benefit sharing system (PABS), and I am confident that negotiations will conclude in time for this year’s World Health Assembly. I am proud that despite the challenges we faced, there are many achievements to celebrate. Today, we opened World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week and launched Ethiopia’s new National Action Plan for AMR. AMR is not a distant threat. It is here, affecting our health, our food systems, and our environment. Yet it is also a challenge we can overcome when we act with unity and purpose. Ethiopia has made important progress; stronger stewardship, growing awareness, expanded surveillance, and hundreds of health facilities implementing better practices across the country. But our journey continues, and the responsibility belongs to all of us. When we make mindful choices in how we use medicines today, we help protect the health and hopes of the next generation. #AMR @GLGAMR
