@BlackMajikMan90 Given the Batman made more and was far better received than Superman and the Penguin was more watched and far better received than Peacemaker or Creatire Commados why would this make sense?

It’s literally the other way around. All of The Batman spinoffs have been canceled and The Penguin Season 2 is unlikely. The DCU is the priority at DC Studios and The Batman stuff is secondary. That’s how it is.

Hating on The Odyssey after gassing up Superman Legacy is like turning down a perfectly cooked savory meal in favor of an expired hot dog in your fridge. Why is the discourse on this damn app driven by tasteless, brainless, drama farming morons?

@donovanmartin5 Great write up and rebuttal. I cannot find a single statement you made that I disagree with. Superman was a top selling comic and an comic standard from 1930s-2000. That's hardly a 'Superman problem' Jarbo is the epitome of a know-nothing with a microphone

This video is so narrow minded and just flat out cynical in so many ways. He establishes that DC has a 'Superman problem' witch they aren't saying out loud (because it never existed in the first place, what only that has existed was people who came in and bastardized the character to fit their cynical and nilisthic world view). And he claims that people are more 'drawn to a Superman who are dark, evil, 'authoritarian' when that isn't the case even going back into comics; there's a Superman story called whats so funny about truth, justice and the American way and at its central conflict is a British cynical nihilist who only views superman as being a 'representative of the American military complex' when he is so much more (unfortunately that is what Alan Moore made him in TDKR). The whole crux of that story is that people are all gung ho about killing and violence to who they where'd wronged by, until it happens to them and Superman at the end puts on a show for Manchester black to prove a point that violence and needless bloodshed is the answer to our problems that we have an innate ability to rise above it all. He has this 'view' that characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman have all these villains yet each time they are 'defeated' that they keep coming back and nothing changes, idk if Matt knows this but the morality of a hero is not killing because when and if they do, they are no better than their villains, they have ethics to rise above them and these stories have taught all of us that is better to be the bigger person than to stoop to their level, that is giving into rage, anger, violence, cynicism, jadedness, etc. Also, gotta love how he has to leverage the 'absolute universe batman' to 'prove his point' when I am willing to bet he has never even touched a page of that book in the slightest and he uses this to prove the point that the audience loves 'darker stories'...but do they actually? In our current world landscape societally and politically, people want wonder and whimsy more than ever and you even go back and see that Snyder's BVS in 2016 the audience reception of that was telling that they did not want these characters being 'deconstructed' or bastardized. Then he continues his 'misguided argument saying that the people who 'glaze Superman (2025) aren't actually Superman readers (witch isn't true in the slightest given that you are talking to someone who has dozen's of Superman comics on a shelf right next to me as well read many more stories online. Those people who 'glaze' Superman actually not only care about the character but, they finally see how he's always been supposed to be portrayed as this shining example to lead others by to good and to be a person that may be an alien but, is more human than any of us and to strive towards a better tomorrow. He then leverages the Absolute Superman comic story (witch I still doubt he even touched in the slightest) goes on to say (most likely form gbt) that this iteration of Superman exists in world thats more violent and on edge and the actual story is of him becoming the man of steel we all know and dare I saw its better written than MOS. Also, there is no evidence in any official capacity that Injustice 3 is being developed at all. He says that people are 'hyped for injustice 3'...meanwhile I don't see that at all, more people are actually against it because after years have come and gone people have grown tired of the trend of making Superman evil when all the while doing so is just lazy storytelling. Again, saying that Gunn's Jor El and Lura El are those characters form invincible when gunn's take on his biological parents was and exploration of nature vs nurture and what we could be by being raised by people who we look up to or those arounds us. And this part takes the cake where he 'asusmes' that Gunn read invincible and 'wanted to do a edgier Superman' when there has not been a single shred of evidence or even quotes to claim that even being true. James Gunn grew up reading comics witch is a bigger difference to someone like Zack Snyder who only grew up with Heavy Metal comics and tried to craft his DCEU like that meanwhile James Gunn has reverence for the character of Superman and who and what he represents witch is not just hope but being a champion for the oppressed and downtrodden; those who are unable to fend for themselves; Superman is alutirsm in its purest state and people like this look down as being altruistic as being 'weak' and having some kind of 'alterive motive' behind their acts of generosity and kindness when that is something the world needs more of than ever! He has to shoe horn in that he 'liked' Superman last year even though for the past couple of months he has been punching down on the movie and its concepts so take that for what you will. In addition, he goes onto state that he Superman 'property' can't compete with the darker and edgier side of DC like Batman and Harley Quninn and it doesn't need to. People like this don't realize that batman is not someone who should be idolizing but rather a very explicit cauntuaory tale of what will become of us when we let ourselves become engrossed by our past traumas and to complement that, we have Superman who has faced not just physical trauma but, very much so or even more so emotional trauma than any other hero in DC and he does express his emotions but, he never lets that keep him down and he flies above it every single time. Having that is courage. And now he goes into the whole thing about Superman and religion and outright dismisses all the claims of him being 'benevolent' and being an immigrant story/allegory (which is true). He then shifts a blame to Richard Donner and how he basically made Superman a 'messiah figure' when in all actuality he is literally 'Moses' who was delivered on a 'basket' to a new world to then grow up in and learn who he was meant to be and to deliver those being oppressed. Of course he had to put in their that if you 'don't get MOS or BVS you are just 'intellectuality devoid' Anyone who says that I view as the very thing they label others. And building off that, he makes it out to be like we shouldn't 'let him grow' like what does that even mean he has grown as a character there are plenty of stories to read form and again this is just coming from very nihillistic and jaded perception of the character. Then he goes into this triad about how if a society moves away form having faith in belveonant beings than that will make it 'harder for people to get behind a perosn like Superman' when Superman's greatest power is his morality and love for all of humanity then he flat out states we should be cynical to witch I say, if you openly advocate for being cynical, you are taking the easy way out, its so much harder being kind and compassionate in a world that seemingly views it as 'old fashioned' but its more valuable to the soul to know that you still care for your fellow man and to lend a helping hand when they need it. That is what Superman inspires us to do and the fact you seemingly refuse it tells me how much of a miserable existence you have. Being 'cynical' and 'pragmatic' towards a character like Superman is how we get what he was in MOS/Injustice/Homelander/Omi man and what I love about this as well is today they announced in season 3 of My Adventures with Superman that the central 'antagonist' will be cyborg Superman and the central theme of the season will deal with the question 'what is a Superman' and its most certainty going to be a deconstruction and counter indictment towards those in our world who are advocating for a more evil superman because what you get form it is more horror and cynicism not actual progress for the betterment of the world. Then pivots to saying that in the James Gunn film that it doesn't the question of what will happen to him after all his friends and his lover Lois dies; thats not the story he is telling Matt and even in comics like Kingdom Come; when Lois is dead Superman doesn't lash out, he doesn't become a tyrant; he goes into exile because he just gave up wanting to be a hero but when the new gen of anti heroes came about; he finally decides to step in. And the summarize Matt's perception of Superman as a character is that he is wanting to be 'human' by not killing anyone and he recites the quote form BVS "nobody stays good"...This is a person who has a clearly skewed, biased, cynical, nilishstic perspective on the character and in more ways does not understand the character in the slightest. I find it funny that matt claims that DC is 'very reclucant to send Superman into the darkness yet theres stories where that have happened and he came out better for it. Really putting your comics illiteracy on full display. And the fact that Jarbo thinks that every super hero's actions will lead to authoritarianism is the most insane and crazy take I have ever head of and really is just telling of his headspace. He thinks people like Superman being auhtortiative more...yeah I doubt it. What truly awful and misguided take he has on the character and really just wishes to see the more dark aspects out of it when he was never written that way.

Wow! I LOVED Hokum! People may consider it a slow burn but I felt totally immersed from the moment it began. It takes a uniquely strange concept & comfortably lays it out through an exciting chain of events that terrify without the needless gore & violence. Adam Scott really brings it home this time. He’s able to play a massive duche that you can’t help but to root for, it’s a very strange prospect that works by its own merit #hokum

BvS had the same tone as Wonder Woman or Aquaman? Oh.. The DCU will never get its deserved appreciation b/c fans like you will never appreciate it on its own merits, but continue comparing it to the past.
James Di-Michele 🇦🇺 🇮🇹 🦘@JamesDiMichele3

This looks amazing! This just proves that the DCU can be different tones and genres. Comedy, horror, noir etc. just like the comics. Unlike the previous universe where it was all just one tone.

We’ve legit lost the plot. I honestly have zero idea what people are looking for these days, we needs a major shift in criticism. The movie I saw was well written, well directed, beautifully shot, insanely well performed & the sound was amazing. Are we “film” critics or not?
