The trial of PSC Director Ben Jamal and Stop the War vice-chair Chris Nineham continued this morning. The court has heard of the lack of communication and coordination amongst officers on the ground, none of whom were aware of the plan for a small delegation to ask permission to walk towards BBC HQ to lay flowers in memory of the people killed in Gaza or, if denied permission, to lay flowers at the feet of the police instead. PC Vale gave testimony about confusion and lack of consistency among police officers at the cordons at the top of Whitehall. Some officers were enforcing an absolute cordon, others were allowing people through. Other officers understood that Whitehall was in fact a pre-determined exit point but PC Vale was not aware of this. She was also not aware that cordon one had been withdrawn and cordon two was filtered, on the orders of senior officers. Had she known about the flower delegation plan, she said her reactions to what was happening on the ground might have been different. Det Insp Christopher Rudd was taken through the chronology of Palestine Coalition social media posts using #wewillmarch. He agreed it could be understood as part of a public campaign for the police to withdraw their restrictions on a march towards the BBC and that it could not be seen as incitement to breach conditions in itself. The intention to march could not be seen as an incitement to breach conditions until 17 Jan when the police imposed a static assembly.n At that point there were no further posts using the #wewillmarch. The trial continues.
