@Maggies9876 @wallybechara @WSWanderingEels Mummy’s don’t want their kids to be gladiators…so, they play the sport with perceived lower contact. Not saying AFL is easy to play, but NRL is not for every kid. Soccer has the most participation - wonder why?

@xXPhillyCXx They’re okay, I guess. But singing has never been Dave’s strength. He has made an art of just screaming. In Your Honour is a prime example. He has led them down the generic rock path. The other two bands you mention are light years ahead of Foo Fighters.

Foo Fighters are interesting for me in that I have a generally high opinion of them and like a lot of their albums (Wasting Light is INCREDIBLE) but if someone compares them to, say, Pearl Jam or Nirvana I always think “… them?” Like there’s a ceiling to how highly I can praise them comfortably. They’re perfectly “good.”

@CamDonDuncan @LeagueFreak @MegWellensX World Cups are one-off events, they draw crowds anywhere, like TSwift, Ed Sheeran & Coldplay. That’s what star power does. But football just isn’t culturally embedded in Oz, and I haven’t seen anything to suggest a regular competition could match the reach of the AFL or NRL.

@GOATedererer @LeagueFreak @MegWellensX Untrue. It’s just the quality isn’t there. If proper teams were playing every week people would attend. If a World Cup came to Australia every game would be sold out.

When we are discussing NRL investment in Super League I am of course hopeful that it is a ground breaking moment for the sport if it happens, but this is the landscape they are operating in. It is about more than just the Premier League and their monopoly- they are competing with tier after tier of football before you move onto any other sport.

@CamDonDuncan @LeagueFreak @MegWellensX Yes, but post a “one off” match, what is happening? More than one match and it turns into A-League. Better quality, yes. But “football” in a week to week competition in Oz is not a big deal. We just don’t care enough.

@robbskidmore SP are not a patch on the bands that came out of Seattle, despite Corgan seeking to put them at the same level. He is such a revisionist. @pavement_band had it right - their status as “indie darlings and the heroes of the indie scene” was always overblown.

Nirvana’s music does not stand the test of time. But the Smashing Pumpkins does. So ultimately Billy Corgan won out against Kurt Cobain. Nirvana was hugely popular but I never listen to it anymore. I find Smashing Pumpkins more musical and listenable. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is a truly great album. Nirvana’s best was probably Unplugged. What say you @batcountry1980 ?
