For almost three decades we have worked to build food security throughout greater Philadelphia, but today, we officially close our doors. It is with great sadness that our work is officially over. It has been an honor to serve our greater Philadelphia community for 28 years.

Our @GPCAHunger Advocacy team will be in DC on June 5 talking to legislators about our priorities for the #FarmBill, the piece of legislation that includes #SNAP, as well as letting legislators know what we are seeing in their districts. (1/2)

For summer 2024, eligible children will receive $40 per summer month, $120 total. Many children will qualify for this benefit automatically, but some will need to apply directly for SUN Bucks. Learn more about SUN Bucks, including who is eligible, here: hungercoalition.org/sun-bucks

Summer is just around the corner, and there is a new permanent federal child nutrition program designed to keep kids fed during the summer months when school is not in session: SUN Bucks (also called Summer EBT). hungercoalition.org/sun-bucks

These trainings help participants gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of food insecurity and the impact it has on those living in Philadelphia. Also included is a facilitated discussion about the barriers and shortcomings of our food system and safety nets. (2/3)

During April, our team has had frequent visits to classrooms! We ran 7 interactive food resource trainings for Penn Charter 6th and 10th graders, La Salle University Nursing Program students, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia first year residents. (1/3)

We organized a Pantry Tour at Pinn Memorial for our Victory In Partnership Network members, which included a tour of their large kitchen that will soon be remodeled for food distribution. It was a great event that created even stronger connections in the anti-hunger community!

This proposal would ensure that, in years to come, #SNAP benefits would NOT be able to keep pace with the cost of a healthy diet. It is important to understand that the ability to meaningfully update the #ThriftyFoodPlan at regular intervals MUST be maintained. (2/3)

Congressman Glenn Thompson recently released info laying out his forthcoming Farm Bill proposal that would prohibit USDA from meaningfully updating the Thrifty Food Plan (TFP) to keep up with the cost of a healthy diet. TFP is the food plan on which SNAP benefits are based. (1/3)

We contacted the County Assistance Office (CAO) to ask for retroactive benefits and get the expenses properly added. The CAO fixed the issue, increased the client’s benefits, and sent them $500+ in retroactive benefits for the 3 months since the client had reported changes. (2/3)

SNAP Hotline In Action: A client moved and reported their new address and expenses to the Change Center. However, when our team completed their renewal, we realized the expenses hadn't been added to case. The client wasn’t receiving all the benefits they were eligible for. (1/3)
