The Gauteng Transport Inspectorate (GTI), in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), executed intensive stop-and-search operations in Johannesburg and Tshwane from 09 to 15 March 2026. This was aimed at enhancing road safety and combating criminal activity. The operations yielded the arrest of 11 motorists, seven for driving under the influence, two for fraud-related offences, one for attempted bribery, and one for defeating the ends of justice. It resulted in the issuance of over 1,000 manual fines and 1,053 electronic fines. The Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, commended the officers for their dedication and warned that reckless and criminal behaviour on Gauteng roads will not be tolerated, with ongoing operations continuing to promote safer, law-abiding roads across the province. #compliance #roadsafety #agalerona

On Power FM this morning, MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela brought it home: transport is about people, not just infrastructure. With Gauteng facing the risk of gridlock speeds by 2037, the message from the National Transport Conference is clear: act now or stand still. From expanding the Gautrain to rebuilding commuter rail and cutting inefficiencies in government systems, the focus is on bold, practical solutions that move people and the economy forward. The focus is also on restoring dignity to daily travel, reliable trains, less congestion, and smarter planning that gives people their time back.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, will handover Operating Licences to Minibus and Scholar Transport Operators. According to the provincial government, the licenses will be given to eligible scholar transporters on Tuesday. Diale-Tlabela imposed regulations on scholar transport operators following a devastating scholar transport accident in Vanderbijlpark that claimed 13 young lives. The MEC will handover the license in four regions, namely Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, West Rand, and Sedibeng, at the Department’s Head Office in Johannesburg. Gauteng Road and Transport said this is the Department’s continuous commitment to enhancing regulatory adherence within the public transport sector. “Through the formalisation and licensing of operators, the Department aims to enhance road safety, boost accountability, and ensure that learners and daily commuters are transported by legally recognised and duly regulated service providers “This intervention is aligned with broader provincial efforts to enhance road safety, professionalise the transport industry, and protect vulnerable road users, particularly learners who rely on scholar transport services.”
