H &H took part in a research study program at @KUEdwardsCampus this summer & learned how our brain talks to our muscles. Today Mr. Kiefer Bass shared with my QUEST Crew about exercise science & #GatorGrit. What an AMAZING opportunity for @gsgators to #OPSMakeTodayCount

Hi all.
So not the best news.
What presented as bloat turned out to not be bloat. It had all the symptoms of bloat but as the vet team went through different diagnostic tests, each test came back negative.
The ultrasound presented a fluid filled something in Bunsen’s abdomen - it was so large the initial X-ray mistook it for his stomach - and a false positive for bloat.
The main vet surgeon who has worked in emergency for decades spoke to us personally and said (to paraphrase)
It most likely isn’t an obstruction as the ultrasound of his stomach showed little fluid and his intestines showed no backed up fluid.
They have no idea what the fluid sac is, and it isn’t presenting as cancer on ultrasound. In fact, in their words, it's extraordinary.
So, our choices were exploratory surgery to find out what it is, or saying goodbye to Bunsen as whatever this thing is has gotten big enough that it’s killing him - pressing on his internal organs and shutting them down.
So Bunsen is having surgery tomorrow.
The surgical main vet wanted his best team fresh and at work to tackle it so they will keep him stable and make sure everything is ready as he is priority one tomorrow.
If the unknown thing is something that can be removed, fixed, etc, they will do so. If not, sadly the suggestion is, well, this would be the end.
Bunsen has always been one of a kind, I guess it’s ironic that he has a one of a kind thing.
Our family is going in to see him tonight, and we will let everyone know tomorrow what happens.
We see your comments and kind words - thank you so very very much.

💯. Least restrictive environment OUGHT to mean least restrictive for ALL students. If the behavior causes multiple disruptions/evacuations it is WRONG to put the education of all other students at risk due to lost instructional time, fear for basic safety, etc. Why don’t administrators/districts fight for the kids?

Yesterday I was awarded with my school's Elementary Teacher of the Year award! I was nominated by other staff members. It was awesome to share the moment with my family who showed up to surprise me. It feels so great to be valued and supported by the best school/admin! #physed

I’m as guilty as anyone of thinking of my @Columbia undergraduates as “kids.” But here is what I’ve seen them do in the last two weeks: (1/10)

By far my most favorite year in PE yet! Did a lot of new games/sports/activities and strayed from my comfort zone, but that means my students did too 💕 a lot we still didn’t get to but I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish together! @OlatheElemPE

@LovePhyEd I’ve been using this video for a couple of years! It’s so impactful at explaining the why of CPR!

Shout out to my student teacher Hugh Gundersen who found this fantastic video demonstrating the why behind the 100-120 bpm rat for CPR compressions:

Proof that GIFs help ALL students: My teaching takes a major hit when we're outside (too bright to use projector).
Pictures/cues help, but nothing like Ss actually seeing skills in action, repeated.
If you teach inside & don't currently use a projector, I HIGHLY recommend it!👇

A6: check out cbhpe.org/projector for TONS of ways GIFs can be used to improve student learning. Regardless of the age of students, being able to see a skill repeated as many times as needed makes a huge difference in skill acquisition. #PhysEd #shapeeasternchat

@Merrlll_PE I love this staton! How did the water blasters hold up throughout the day? How many did you buy? I’m worried about them breaking.
