𝙂𝙋𝘿'𝙨 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙘 𝘿𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙀𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙨 2025 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙭𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙨 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 GREENSBORO, NC (July 20, 2026) – The Greensboro Police Department’s Forensic Services Division has been named one of only 15 forensic laboratories worldwide to receive the prestigious 2025 Foresight Maximus Award. This international distinction, which the division also earned in 2023, recognizes top-performing laboratories that operate at 90% or better of peak efficiency. The division's peak operational efficiency directly translates into timely forensic inspections that help solve crimes, identify unknown decedents, protect local neighborhoods by aiding in successful prosecutions, and maximize public safety dollars. “Our achievements are the result of the department’s support and trust, as well as the collaboration with internal and external justice system partners," said Kelly Moore, GPD’s Director of Forensics. "The Greensboro Police Department fosters an environment in which the value of forensic services is deeply recognized and cultivated." Moore credits the global achievement to her team’s unwavering commitment to their community and purpose-driven productivity. “Members of this division genuinely care about our local community and greater societal good as a whole. They are passionate and people-centered, have a love for science, and are motivated by a deep desire to serve with heart and integrity," Moore stated. "Participation in Project Foresight has allowed us to continue empowering our team with streamlined processes and data-informed workflows,” Moore said. “Our examiners and specialists are exceptional, they have to be, because ultimately the work they do extends to serve as a voice for our victims and bedrock for safer communities.” Maximus Award selection is based on rigorous business metrics established by Project Foresight. Launched in 2007 through a cooperative agreement between the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University (WVU) and the National Institute of Justice, the Foresight program is a business-guided, assessment tool for forensic science laboratories. The process involves standardizing definitions for metrics to evaluate work processes, linking financial information to work tasks and functions. Through this data, forensic managers can assess resource allocations, efficiencies, and the value of services. The core mission of Project Foresight is to measure, preserve what works, and change what does not—creating a global, business-guided self-evaluation system that has optimized laboratory performance across the U.S. and internationally.

A gathering of Mr. Larry Burton's family and friends Saturday afternoon honored his legacy and renewed a public plea for any tips to be shared with investigators about his disappearance just over a year ago. On July 3, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Greensboro Police responded to the 1200 block of Moody Street in reference to a missing 74-year-old man identified as Larry Darnell Burton. This remains an active missing person case and we urge anyone with any information to please contact Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 336-373-1000. The family is offering a $5,000 reward.

Congrats, fam. You asked, and we made it happen. The NCDOT came over from Raleigh last month with a paper cutout of a “Don’t Crime” sign their interns made. Well, we turned that into an official sign you can get your picture taken with, because, hey, why not? You can come and see this art during normal business hours at police HQ. (M-F, 8-5, 100 E. Police Plaza.) If you do get your picture with it, tag us! #DontCrime

Okay, friends. Our Office of Community Engagement recently started a patch wall at the department. They messaged many agencies across the country for a patch, but they only got a few back. With that being said, the social team got wind of this, and we want to make this blow up! Tag your local police department, or any for that matter, and share, please! (Brownie points for international agencies.) ✉️ They can be mailed to: ATTN: OCE 100 E. Police Plaza Greensboro, NC 27402

We are proud of our Investigative Support Division (ISD) for taking illegal firearms off the streets of Greensboro! Illegal firearms are weapons that are stolen or unregistered, altered to be more concealable or more dangerous (like sawed-off barrels or illegally converted automatic weapons), manufactured without serial numbers (often called “ghost guns”), or possessed by people legally prohibited from owning them. Keep up the great work!

Just to make you all aware of a crime you may be committing without even knowing it. When a dog or cat stretches, you must look at them and say, "oooooooo, biggggg strechhhhhh".
