After spending 2.5 weeks in an Ontario GTA hospital with my 93-year-old mother-n-law, I can say this with absolute certainty: Today, she passed away with the best doctor and nursing care any person in any country could hope to receive. The doctors and nurses caring for her were nothing short of phenomenal compassionate, skilled, and deeply human. Today, her nurse stepped back into the room and said: “It’s beautiful to see a family gathered around a dying loved one. We don’t get to see that enough.” Let that sink in. The only issue I had through this experience was private retirement-home marketing being pushed early on, pamphlets from companies like Chartwell Retirement Residences being handed out while our family was still processing what was happening. Anyone pushing private healthcare should spend two weeks watching Ontario’s frontline healthcare workers care for someone they love. Our healthcare workers are not the problem. Public healthcare is not the problem. Governments starving the system and mismanaging it like Doug Ford’s government, are the problem. I will never support privatized healthcare after what we witnessed and experienced. RIP 🙏

He generally fails to say what the cost would be (such as remove the gas tax, what is the impact (on taxes collected) and what service/benefit will be lost to cover that cost). His followers all nod along and fail to see it

His note said he had to do it while he still had enough control (over his limbs) to do it. Had MAID been around it would have been different.

I had a loved one in my family choose MAiD when he was in the last months of painful bladder cancer. I see a lot of people on this platform calling it immoral. The only immoral thing I see is making people suffer when they choose to die on their own terms with dignity.

@perfectrose2011 @JeffreyLuscombe My co-workers husband had ALS, she went home one day to find him hanging. His note said that he couldn't face that end and had to do it before he was no longer able to do it. Had MAID been around he could have chosen that and waited till he was truly ready.

@JeffreyLuscombe I agree. My mum was immobile with stiff limbs; except for being able to blink, talk, swallow food and beverages until she couldn't do the latter for over 10 months before she died of Atypical ALS. There was no MAID in Canada then but she suffered for all those months.
