@classic_film Our family went to see Gone With the Wind in 68. After it was over, Dad said, "Did you hear all those old women sigh when Gable appeared?" Sister, age 17, "What old women? That was me!"

@GTCArisson Careful...
Some peeps get riled when you start talking logically and consider scheme.

@ChloeChloeChl19 @classic_film That's a legitimate perspective. For me, I recognize that Frederic March was huge in the 30s, although his performances generally leave me flat. That said, he really works in Eagle & the Hawk, which has Grant playing off of him. But that wasn't enough for me to nominate March.

@GTCArisson @classic_film No, that's what I'm saying. He was in a lot of movies in the 1930's that I think are okay, whereas there are other actors who I don't like as well overall, but think their 1930's offerings are better as a whole.

It's Nomination Day for the #1930sLeadActor Tournament!

@ChloeChloeChl19 @classic_film Well, did his good 30s movies stand out from the pack of other 30s actors for you? If so, his later work shouldn't sway you.
English

@GTCArisson @classic_film I'm not saying he didn't have good movies in the 30's, but I think his work in other decades was stronger. I feel the same way about Jimmy Stewart, whom I also love!

@classic_film This is going to be tough to narrow down. I immediately thought of Cary Grant, but though Bringing Up Baby is one of my favorite movies, the '40's and '50's were much stronger decades for him. Leaving him off would make room for???? But can I really not include Cary Grant?

Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
Errol Flynn
Clark Gable
Cary Grant
