How fast can you tow a trailer in the UK? Speed limits change when you're towing, and a lot of people don’t realise it. 🚗 Single carriageways: 50mph 🚗 Dual carriageways: 60mph 🚗 Motorways: 60mph Even if the road allows 70mph, towing vehicles must stick to the lower limits.

It’s a common one: “Do I need a number plate on my trailer?” 👉 Yes, every trailer used on the road must display a registration plate that matches the towing vehicle. That includes small trailers, camping setups, and commercial rigs.

“Can I tow a General Duty trailer on my current licence?” Yes, if you passed your test before 1997, you’re good to go. Passed after? You can still tow up to 3,500kg with the right setup. ✅ Unsure of your weight limits? Ask us and we’ll check your vehicle and trailer spec.
